Looking at a Vivitar 285 at full power (pic)

Ever wondered if you would burn your retinas out looking into a Viv 285 accidentally left on full power? Well pretty close. About like a concussion grenade going off in my face. Note the reflection of my face showing up inverted on the flash. This was due to internal reflections in the DA 50-135mm since the flash was so bright.

No, I hadn't been drinking. I meant to do this at low power just for effect. I like how this one turned out though.

AH Well You tried!!

Bummer, guess I can keep shooting JPEG and not feel too bad.

I have been thinking of doing a similar shot but with the flash IN my mouth, then trying to PP in light shooting out of my ears. Could be interesting to try, maybe on a night when I don't work the next day.

sigh.....

Have a good one.

Hehe, JPG is fine as long as you are close in exposure/etc. Make use of the RAW button if you get to a difficult picture (don't know if all the Pentaxes have that or not though).

That would be fun to do, would make a neat shot.

Have a good night,

Eric

Uhm, if your eyes are open during this shot, then you, sir, are insane. That's all I'm going to say.

My five year old did that with my 540 the other day (pressed the test button). He looked pretty scared. I told him never to do that again. He still complained about the "red square" 5-10 minutes later. But he seems to be okay now - haven't seen him walking into anything...

(I used to let him play with my Vivitar 550fd, which is a lot weaker then the Pentax)

Yes, a little, but it was accidental, I inteded to reduce it to min power first, I wanted just my eyes to remain with everything else blown out.

I don't think it will hurt them, but certainly not healthy. It reminds me of the photographs they take at the eye doctor, where you see a light ring for a good 10 minutes after they do it.

I'm not afraid of flashes, but I have a lot of respect

You know, if you fire one of those against a piece of paper, it'll smoke a layer off it.

Re: I did it!!

LOL, that lit up more of your face than I thought it would. I figured it would just light up the cheeks. Just be careful not to burn yourself with the flash bulb though.

Good one,

Eric

I had a close encounter...

with my Metz 58 AF-1.

I was trying our wireless operation. I had the flash, turned on, reflector side against my chest, while fiddling with the plastic stand. I accidentally bumped the test button. The flash went off and actually scorched my shirt! Thankfully there was no injury to my person or to the Metz!

Good one,

Eric,

VERY VERRRRYYY careful to check the power of the thing, it is a Sunpak Auto 30, not a super powerful flash, put right against your skin it will only give you a warm fuzzy. I work in a hospital, I know what kinds of crazy things people do, makes me think now and then. ;-}

Are you sure? Just joking, i had a similar experience with the FGZ-360. But the encounter wasn't as close, fortunately. I bet you're left seeing some HUGE spots for the next few (maybe not so few) minutes
