300 instant savings on D700

My Nikon Dealer just informed me yesterday that the D700 I just purchased comes with a 300 dollar instant savings that starts today so after my 15% prodiscount and additional 300less, thats a great price that just paid for the grip and enl4a battery.

Is this a Nikon rebate/discount?...or some sort of local thing? Are you in the U.S.

If so, could it be possible that discount web based photo sites will start slashing costs, too?

Buydig charges something like $2,600.... and they are an authorized Nikon dealer... if they offer the $300, the price is looking even better!

Re: 300 instant savings on D700

This is what my dealer emailed to me yesterday afternoon; I am in Southern Louisiana USA. I bought the camera from within the store not web.

Good news!
Nikon has a $300 instant savings on the D700 starting tomorrow 10/23-11/22.

Rich,

its been a freaky year, this news made my day yesterday. Coming from a D3, this D700 is a fine camera, fits well in the hands with the grip.

Look people,

sales everywhere are being hit. Esp in the US that has gone into recession.

US being the biggest consumer market, will be hit by rebates, coupons, trade-ins and what not.

I think this is just the beginning of price reductions.

The rest of the world will probably get a slight price adjustment, if any.

Re: 300 instant savings on D700

Well,

My local photos stores are selling the D700 at full retail... so a $300 rebate is uninteresting given that online sellers are already selling the camera for that much.

Now, if this rebate becomes a part of the deal for online sellers... then we're talking!

Re: 300 instant savings on D700

I just checked with B&H. They say they know nothing about this and point out that the Ritz mention of a Nikon Bonus Sale may be their own promotion. However, they also noted they had been closed for about a week "until four hours ago" and that it is possible, if this is a Nikon promotion, that this information will be up and running on their site, if not later today, then by tomorrow.

They still beat Ritz's price; but with an additional $300.00, it will be near impossible to pass this by.

What a rip-off.

Yesterday Abes of Maine's price was $2614.15 ($2694.15 - $80.00 promotion).

Today with the $300 instant rebate it is $2649.95 ($2999.95 - $300.00 - $50.00)

You are absolutely 100% correct, and that's why I have been waiting. So if this $300.00 rebate is mainly hot air, I'll just continue waiting. Insofar as Ritz is concerned, this may be their way of saving face and becoming competitive with the Big Boys on the Web. Simply put, it's another indication of the pressures being exerted on prices.

Regardless, more price cuts are certain to follow. Consumers are getting kicked in the guts by constantly rising costs plus fears relating to job security. Auto sales are down 29% (GM), dividends, and stocks are down, due in good part to consumers cutting back retail spending. Credit card charges have also dropped off.

Meanwhile, food prices are still very high and gas prices, although relenting somewhat, are still high. And when people get into, and accept, price-cutting and savings modes as a new and legitimate form of behavior, it may be hard to get them to come out and ramp up their spending, "just like the good old days" of several months ago and back!

Buydig's price is $2,699 and they are now showing the $300 rebate...so it's $2,400.

It will be interesting to see what the more cut-rate online shops do with this.

Through Microsoft live's 2% off deal... the price is $2,350 with the rebate.

I am seriously considering buying something like this http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Multi-Power-Rechargeable-Precision-Cleaning/dp/B001D81GII/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=photo&qid=1224790929&sr=1-6

and having my friend in California ship it over.
