40D "MarkII"

Despite the nonsense of a product like this, in terms of marketing... How many of you would like to see a 40D "MarkII"?
(I could have called it a "45D" but it was harder to post-process...)

40D "Mark II" spec:

  • new 12 MP gapless microlens CMOS sensor which employs the 5D markII improved output amplifier, and a more advanced color filter with superior light transmission

  • Dig!t IV

  • 100-3200 base ISO, expanded L1- 50, H1- 6400

  • Liveview with new more advanced algorithm contrast based AF with tracking capabilities

  • Movie mode, with the ability to use the upper mentioned contrast AF

  • 5D markII LCD

  • 5D markII battery system

  • AF microajustment

  • Fulltime weathersealing

  • Everything else, same specs from the 40D...

Do you think a camera with these specs could wield 1.5-2 stop advantage to the current D design?
One can dream, can't it? ;-p

Thats what I expected 50D to be. But I love my 50D as it is.

I think it's called a 60D

I don't think they'll go from a 15MP sensor to a 12MP for the 60D, but that would be great! Most probably they'll stick the same 50D sensor in the 60D...

Re: 40D

The 40D MKII is the so called 50D, wich have more pixels, better LCD and few more improvement. A real, consistent upgrade? The 60D, out on October 2009....

never gonna get better high iso

If you have 6MP or 16 MP this size sensor will always start to fail at iso 1600. On full frame you can have 12 mp or 24 mp and easily get to iso 6400. It will take a real change in sensor technology to break these barriers - fuji and kodak are working. The rest of your specs are 60d. 50D may be the pinnacle of 1.6 crop camera. After this everyone is going to be worried about video features and stop concentrating on the good stuff - like the shutter action, that is so important for still photography.

Don't thank me I copied from another post! It is a nice read though.

Re: never gonna get better high iso

The pixels on a 21 MP FF sensor are the same size as those on an 8.2 MP crop sensor (20D-30D). All other factors being equal (micro lenses, RGB filters, etc), why is it that you think the FF sensor can last until ISO 6400 while the crop sensor can only hold up through ISO 1600? Am I missing something? As far as I'm aware, there's nothing inherent to SENSOR size that dictates S/N ratio.

It has Secret FF Sauce. Also, a crop body is too small to offer Fulltime Weatersealing circuitry as well. You'll only see Part-time Weathersealing...which kinda makes it exciting.

Sounds more like a "4D" or the rumored "3D"

Damn you - I thought it was real

Stupid me, I really thought it was for real when I saw this in at the http://www.canonRUMOR.com . Don't play with my emotion, I suppose I really would like to see a Mark II (with much less mega-pixel and a movie mode). Too bad

Yes there is a need in the industry to upgrade the sensor technology, but do you really think that they can't at this moment do better with the current sensor technology? Well Nikon seems to be doing it with it's crop D300...
