selling my Canon XLH1 for the 5DMII and 1080p

When I shoot weddings, I sometimes lug around my Canon XLH1 and shoot video HD video just of certain portions of the wedding and the blend it in with other shots. I often carry with me a 1DsMII with 24-70 2.8L and a 5D with a 70-200 2.8L AND a huge canon XLH1 on a tripod. I lug all three around and die during weddings. Now, I will sell my 5D and my XLH1 and shoot 1080p video using the 70-200 2.8L lens along with close up shots. So much better for the clients to have some video especially when they do not hire a videographer. I just hope the files from the 5DMII can be edited using FCP or adobe premiere

Sounds cool. Can't wait to see how people make use of the Video. I hope I can get my copy of the 5DII to focus when taking stills.

me? I plan on using it to automate landscape notations and notes for where I should be shooting at what time of the year.

if I see an area .. I can quickly flip modes, pan and discribe what I want to do and when / why.

Just ended my cable-contract

I used to watch television at home. Sometimes I enjoyed a DVD-movie. With the arrival of the new 5DmkII that's going to change BIG TIME!

No more stupid cable-TV, no more Die Hard Sequal 358, I will be producing my own stuff in FULL HD... hahaha it wil be GREAT.

I'll invite all neighbours and I will enjoy their envy. Thank you Canon!

I have my Sennheiser mic ready, ordering XLR adapter

Just remember that turning the 5D vertical for video is a bad idea

Awesome isn't it? Imagine the possibilities of what a Wedding photographer can give their clients now...Super High quality footage of important parts of the wedding, and still take the still's at the same time. Also, I believe you will be able to "screen capture" a 2 MP file from the footage..which means pretty darn good 5X7 prints...professionals (for certain photography paths such as weddings and photojournalism) that don't embrace this technology are just going to leave themselves in the past.

Too bad the sample videos have been converted to Flash.

Has anyone seen any full-size video snips besides the version here ( http://www.akihabaranews.com/en/news-16717-EOS+Canon+5D+Mark+II+HANDS+ON+with+Video+&+Pictures+Sample !!!.html) with the bizarre artifacts in highlight areas (not to mention way-off white balance)?

I'm going to sell my wooden toilet seat and buy a padded one with a fuzzy cover, even though I don't know whether I'll like it or not and I don't know if it will be as easy to clean as the wooden one.

I just thought everyone would want to know.

Re: selling my Canon XLH1 for the 5DMII and 1080p

I shoot weddings both photography & video but not at the same time... I'll keep my canon xh-a1 for video!! , try and do both at once and neither will be done properly. It's nice to have the video on the new 5d but i cant see myself using it at a wedding.... now if it could record a 10 second clip at 8mp resolution i could see the use.... shoot a 10 sec video choose the best shot on the timeline and the rest is binned It would be good in shots where there is a lot of movement eg bridal party walking skipping type shots.

XLH1 is a POS

You're right in ditchin the H1. It's a front-heavy 1/3 smallish sensor HDV camcorder that will give you videoish look at best.

The LCD on the H1 is a smeary POS of LCD.. it would be sheer joy to use the 5D's 3" LCD to compose and focus with.

For short segements that doesn't require critical audio, the 5D is a way better solution than the XLH1 and most other dedicated pro-sumer HD camcorders.

Those who with cynical and sarcastic replies really are amateurs who can't comprehend the creative work that can be achieved with such devices.

Hey just having a little fun. Trying to have a good time instead of getting upset over the FisherPrice AF. I am going to buy this camera as I have no choice. Canon has me over the barrel.

sample vid exposure is way off, so is WB

The sample vid in there is not exposed correctly, that is why the highlights are going nots. All the info panels on the walls are lit up. The person doing the video mode did not set this correctly.
