One flash TTL and one flash manual trigger via EBAY trigger?!

I have a quick question. I have a canon 430 EX and Cactus Trigger (ebay wireless trigger). I've been playing around with off-camera lighting with the Cactus Trigger. My sister has a 430 EX flash also. Is there a device, cord, splitter or something that will allow my camera to trigger my 430EX flash on-camera e-TTL and trigger my cactus trigger at the same time to trigger my sisters 430 EX off camera in manual mode (of course aside from a 580 EX or ST-02)? Thanks in advance.

Unless your camera has a separate sync socket - which I suspect it won't, then you can use a smart slave which will work with the pre-flashes on your TTL 430 EX to fire a second 430 EX in sync.

Yes,

Just buy a shoe adapter with a PC socket for your "slave" flash

Something ike this :

http://www.flashzebra.com/hotshoes-shoes/0064.shtml

Plug the Cactus trigger in the PC socket of your camera and your "master flash" on the shoe and it works (with the "slave" flash in manual mode of course), even in E-ttl

I have not the 430 EX but a few 580's, as other non brand's camera and it works.

No reasons it would not work with a 430.

How will that work when theres no way for the camera to transmit TTL information through the hotshoe? Theres no TTL pins.

If the hotshoe had TTL pins then this would probably work.

The question is how to trigger one flash ttl and the other one manual.

Of course the 2 flashes cannot work in e-ttl, and the 430 EX cannot even trigger the second one in manual mode in the wireless Canon system, since it cannot set as a "master".

The only way, IMHO, to trigger both is to use one on the camera's shoe (manual or ttl) and the second, fired by a cactus transmitter (or a pc cord) in the camera's PC socket.

If the hotshoe had TTL pins then this would probably work.

The question is how to trigger one flash ttl and the other one manual.

So then, if the hotshoe adapter doesn't have TTL pins how can any TTL work?

If the flash had an external pc socket the radio could be attached to that and still retain ttl - but it doesn't. Maybe a 580 has an external pc socket and you could use one of those?

What camera is being used ? I answered not knowing the model and whether there was a PC socket available. I assumed that one didn't exist as it's not that common and would be the most obvious solution. Maybe theres another way.

Good point,

if the camera has not E-ttl, you can just use the flashes in manual. The main flash on the camera's shoe and the secon on an adapter with pc socket, both tethered by a PC cord or the transmitter plugged in the camera's Pc socket and the receiver in the adapter plug. if the camera has no PC socket, you need a second adapter to place between the flash and the camera.

If the camera is E-ttl, the problem is if it has not a PC socket; Then you have, either mod your 430 EX to add a PC socket, or buy this item :

Have a look at Michael Bass blog :

http://michaelbass.blogspot.com/

He sells the above item or can add an aux sync socket on the 430 EX.

The aux sync socket is whats required. (Or just a smart cell as I suggested )

Thanks for the help. I shot 350D and has no PC sync. So there isn't a shoe adaptor that will transmit the ttL info and has a pc sync? Thanks again.

Yes,

It's the radioppoper, which transmits via RF e-ttl frome the master to the slave(s).

http://radiopopper.com/blog/

But it won't work with your gear, since the 430 EX cannot be set as "master".

BTW they are rather pricey (about 360 USD for a receiver and a transmitter.

They are for now only available for USA (due to radio regulations)

Otherwise, you have the ST-E2, which can trigger 430's in e-ttl.

Nice stuff, I have one since about 10 years, but it controls only 2 groups.

I don't know the actual price, but it should be under 200 USD.

It appears that Wein have extended their range to slave cells that are less expensive.
http://www.weinproducts.com/safesyncs.htm

All these will work with your camera.

Theres two amongst these for around $40

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?ci=0&shs=wein+slaves&sb=ps&pn=1&sq=desc&InitialSearch=yes&O=jsp%2Fproductlist.jsp&A=search&Q=*&bhs=t&Go.x=17&Go.y=8

It's possible that other manufacturers make these type of slaves too.
