I doubt if the the images now floating about are enticing enough

Blacked out cameras don't sell well....
So they put a 5D there

Ouch! 3000 Euros?

That's 500 Euros more than the Nikon D700

I really hope it's not true. Actually I can't believe it's true: Canon has always had a very competitive price policy with regards to Nikon.

That is not too bad considering the 5D was priced at € 3459,00/$ 3.299,00 when it was announced in august 2005....

If the price would be much lower than € 3.000,00, tha would suggest either less advanced than many of you expect or Canon is resorting to somewhat desperate marketing.

Wow - dpreview does not know about it and a French mag already has it on its cover?

Then this camera is not the successor to the 5D.

The 5D was never meant as a professional camera. It's introductory price back then was in line with the pricing of the time: no other FF camera existed then.

Now there is the D700 which has the same MP as the 5D and a much more powerful processor, yet it's introductory price is 1000 Euros lower than what used to be for the 5D. This simply means that the new front line for prosumer FF cameras TODAY is around the 2500 Euros, not more.

I predict that if Canon really places the 5D successor's price tag at 500 Euros more than the D700, they're going to have a very hard response from the market.
So I don't think this will happen.

But, what if...
What if that new camera really is an upgrade to the 5D...

What if in all fairness it is NOT a real successor to the 5D but something entirly new (IMHO the slogan about the future does imply something NEW)

Then all is possible... Maybe a plasticky cheap FF or possibly something between 1Ds and 5D. And I have no doubt is it is one of those the other one will folllow at PMA :-D.
