Another black/white lens count thread

I count 34 white/23 black. Yes, I am a Nikon fanboy. I guess the all white lens advertising spread is not going to happen again this year.

Chris did you count the lenses in the other photographers boxes, me thinks there's plenty more.

The whole "white lens" thing may just backfire on Canon....

Re: Another black/white lens count thread

I counted all that I could find in that panoramic. But if I got it wrong (likely) anyone is welcome to correct me.

BTW, this is obviously not a complete count. We can't see anyone on the track and I am sure there are other boxes around the field.

BTW, don't you agree that the re-emergence of Nikon in the sports world is miraculous?

Did I read that right? More Canon lenses than Nikon by a lot? I was seeing it the other way around.

Re: Another black/white lens count thread

quite amazing that the ratio moved that quickly.....

these guys really don't have brand loyalty.....they just get what works best......which is the D3 right at this moment.....kind of refreshing

if Canon releases an Mk "whatever" that blanks the D3....you would have to assume the trend will reverse just as quickly....

the question is

where did these guys stash all those white lenses ???

The panorama is nice, but you've no idea how interesting it is reading his Peking blog - which, sadly for you guys, is in Finnish... He's constantly making fun of his client, the largest tabloid paper here in Finland. It shows that he's not made that much business with those papers before. All the nagging and moaning, it's just so hilarious!

Thanks, Kari! I'm enjoying this...

Remember...

Criticizing a client for their use of photography isn't inherently wrong. It's downright poetic justice. All in good fun - nothing's sacred.

PS: This post was to prevent false conclusions on the man's professional ethics. Somehow the 'edit' function doesn't work at the moment...

Re: Another black/white lens count thread

On one of the Nikon professional photography websites it had an intrview with the head sports photographer at The Sun newspaper in England.

Basically he says that many pros sports photographers are switching to Nikon (including himself) after years with Canon. He indicates that he needed to switch as it allowed him to take photographs that he couldn't get with his old brand. He sold £20,000 worth of equipment when he switched.

Canon have well and truly co%%ed up the last couple of years. They had a massive lead in the pro market ..... which, by the look at things, Nikon may have well eaten a 50% market share of in the space of just 8 months.

"He indicates that he needed to switch as it allowed him to take photographs that he couldn't get with his old brand. "

Besides the introduction of the D3 with its low light capabilities, the AF-S 14-24mm f/2.8G and the refreshment of the long teles also had a very big impact.

A new graphics puzzle for the kids who are just learning to count...

I took the above 2 days ago at the Bird's Nest.

Re: Another black/white lens count thread

the guy on the bottom part just at the top of the photo pit is HALARIOUS with his point and shoot that is so small you can't even see it in his hands! He has along sleeve blue shirt on. I bet his flash went off when he took the shot too.

Okay, I am waiting for someone to count the black/white ratio. but i will say it again that the sea of white lenses has a LOT of black in it now.

I Still don't see Canon running one of those "look at all the white lenses" adds.

Re: Another black/white lens count thread

Yes, but what is really needed is shots we can make out the cameras as there is very likely a couple that are not nikon or canon. The white/black Canon/Nikon mindset really isn't absolute.

Re: Another black/white lens count thread

I agree that it is not absolute. The instances of black white mistakes would not make as much difference as the fact we do not have a real and complete count. however, the trend is clear. The almost total and complete dominance of Canon in sports venues is broken. The rise of Nikon is more than significant and the D3 is the sole reason for that.

interesting thing I saw today

After the lightning Bolt 200m finnish, I saw an assistant with two cameras, one with white the other with black mid-sized teles. Some people may be using both Canon and Nikon.
