Maxxum 5D, 7D max CF card size

My father has a Maxxum 7D. He cannot find his manual and I cannot find the support site for it. Can anyone help out by telling me what is the largest capacity CF card these guys can use and if there are any other specification limitations on CF type?

Thanks!

All the manual says is Type I and II CompactFlash cards and Microdrives are compatible. To my knowledge there is no restriction on capacity. I tend to use 2GB cards just because I don't want to lose 4 or 8GB of photos on one card.

You can download the manual at:

http://ca.konicaminolta.com/support/manuals/digital_cameras/dslr/index.html

I would suggest saving a copy and putting it on a CD for your dad.

4G works fine on my KM5D. I have not tried anything larger than this.

Re: Maxxum 5D, 7D max CF card size

when the 7D came out 4 years ago, there wasnt anything larger than 2 gigs... so the manual would not reference anything bigger .. 4 GB works with no problem..

Can't add anything to your question that hasn't been said before, I use a 4G card regularly.

Can add that I really like your tag line though.

thx

8 Gbytes Maximum!

We discussed this a while ago, and I posted the results of lots of testing with my cards on the 5D and 7D.

8 Gbyte CF cards work fine.

16 Gbyte CF cards work fine until they are half filled up, and then odd things start happening and the shots you take appear to be stored on the card, but then aren't.

Re: 8 Gbytes Maximum!

Please remember to format the memory card. The camera, KM 7d can format the card. I am under the opinion that the manual is ignored sometimes because we are in a hurry to use the camera, read it. The manual will eliminate problems later. As for memory size I am experimenting since the manual didn't state size.

Your first post !  Welcome to the forum. Since you didn't notice, you are answering a thread that is 9 years old. Most of the people in this thread are now dead. I'm the only living survivor and still use my 7D on occasion. Its still a great camera . : )

Taken with my KM 7D when this thread was just started back in 2008

This is an old thread, but to give a reply, I am using a SanDisk Extreme 32 GB  CF Card in my Konica Minolta A7D (Japan) Same as the  Maxxum and Dynax 7 D model. The card works fine so far with no problems. I've never read or heard of the capacity limit size  of a CF card that can be used on a 7D.

Curious if this held true once you got past a certain capacity/filled it up completely. I'm still shooting my many 2 or 4gb cards and while I've never had a problem, the notion of seeing my 5D's ticker in the thousands would be pretty sweet. Thanks in advance if you do respond!

Just a Maxxum, an Alpha, and crossed fingers.

I know this is an old thread, but updates are always useful. I have just installed a SanDisk Extreme 16 GB UDMA CF Memory Card and it works flawlessly in my Konica Minolta Dynax 5D on single or continuous adv.

Re: 8 Gbytes Maximum!

I'm not dead yet.  I think I probably read that thread in 2008.  My 7D is still in fine working order.   I even still have a handful of working memory sticks and CF cards up to 16 gig.  I still have a working Minolta 5600 HS flash.   Good stuff lasts for a very long time.  The new Sony e-mount gear is too expensive and I read people have problems with that new gear too.  My A-mount gear keeps chugging along.

OK, so has anyone managed to get a 32 GB CF working in a 7D?

32 GB ?

That's a hell of a lot of shots needed to fill up a card from a 6mp camera !

I think I have either a 4 or 8 GB card in mine .

Even on a few weeks holiday  there's space to spare .

Also if you've read this thread you'll have noticed one post stating that after a certain amount has been stored , while the card seems to be storing them , it isn't working right .

Three quarters of the shots you take might be lost , and that's a sh*t load of shots to risk loosing !

Why take the risk , these small capacity cards like 2 or 4 GB are no use in today's 24mp cameras shooting RAW , so use them in your older cameras and stick the big cards in the new cameras .

Dead easy .

Re: Maxxum 5D, 7D max CF card size

I just tested the sandisk extreme pro 32gb in my 7D.
format worked, the display says 2546 photos remaining in raw+jpg. With 16GB card it says 1273.
No issue whatsoever, the 32GB works.

Let us know when you've got 2546 images on the card .

Even though the camera formats the card and says it'll hold that much , people have had the problem that once it's got a certain amount on it , it doesn't store any more .

So it seems to be working fine untill you get home and can't transfer the full days shoot to your computer .

That's where the problem is .

Whether this affects all cards is unknown .
