GPS

What the purpose of GPS in a camera? Tracking the camera if stolen or assigning coordinates to every picture? I don't think I need any of those.

Re: GPS

well my local dealer who is a good friend persuaded me NOT to buy a D300 in the last days..... there is something coming he says .... they know it and def not rumour......

plus..... i see they now ditched 400eu off the D300 price here in Germany....

price is now below 1500eu for a D300 body.....

which is why I was looking!

i can wait alittle while longer..... oh my local dealer also knew about the D40, 60, 80 700 etc all before they were announced so I have no doubt he knows something ......

Re: GPS

D300's price fall indicates that there's something higher priced/spec'd coming. No point in doing that if D90 will be 1000-1200 Euro and D300 below 1500. Weird.

When will the naming regimen change?

Okay, so currently we're up to the D80...and now the successor will be (supposedly) named the D90. But they can't (in the near future) use the D100 designation, so I wonder when (if) the naming regimen will change...unless, of course, they stop the series.

Re: Nikon D90 Rumor

I know for a fact that it will have 3' display, video recording, 10 MP. It looks like it will be announced at Photokina at the end of September and will be out for sale very soon after that.

I think it will be worth the wait.

Don't think so, since at least one of your facts is wrong...

Will it include wheels and a handle? What impact on battery life does a 36" display have? One things for sure, you wont be able to miss these cameras on the sidelines of any major sporting event!

You mean it won't have a 3' display That would put my 8x10 view camera to shame.

Re: Nikon D90 Rumor

I want MP3 player, WiFi, GPS, and FX sensor all in a compact D40 size body, with 15 FPS.

Throw in a micro 12-400mm f/1.2 AF-S VR lense and price the kit around $1000.

I forgot 100% viewfinder and 3" Live view LCD.

Re: Nikon D90 Rumor

This thread is the first in a LOOOONG time that has restored my faith in Nikon. Waiting to upgrade from my D50 has been painful.

Of course there still is the chance that Nikon really wants to twist the knife and leave the focus motor out of this camera, too.

I'm glad I'm in a position to wait for this camera.

Swivel/tilt LCD for a better Live View experience?

No. Fixed 3" color LCD.

I cant wait.

I've been seriously wanting to upgrade my D70 lately and just been holding off on getting the D80 in hopes the D90 will be announced soon. I hope my agonizing wait will be worth it.

I really hope the D90 will be great and will be available as soon as October.

Expectations...

I´d be very happy with the 3" LCD screen, but also expecting a serious upgrade with sensor (low noise?) and the keep of focus motor to decide.

Re: Nikon D90 Rumor

Thom has the confidence of Nikon and in order to gain advance information from them, he has to limit what he reveals. So, no, he won't spill the beans. But, he will give us a darn good book when the final product hits the shelves. Good chance he has an advance model in his hand to start working on his next e-book, so it can be ready not too long after the product is being purchased and people want to know how to maximize its features.
