New Nikon Picture Control profiles available

Two new Picture Control profiles are now available. Portraits and Landscapes are the name of the new profiles.

I believe we need a D300 firmware update

Before loading the new Picture Control profiles to my D300, I had loaded the 4 Picture Control profiles that comes with the camera (STANDARD, NEUTRAL, VIVID, MONOCHROME), and the 3 D2X profiles (D2XMODE1, D2XMODE2, D2XMODE3).

When I tried to copy the 2 new PORTRAIT and LANDSCAPE profiles to my D300 camera, there was not enough empty space, and I had to delete one of the D2X profiles to make space available for the last Picture Control of the two new profiles. Nikon have to make more space available for new Nikon Picture Control profiles. It look like they only made space for 4 new Nikon profiles, besides the user modified Picture Controls.

Do any other have the same problem?

Thank you. How're they?

I assume this can be used in the camera. How good is the picture out of the camera?

Re: New Nikon Picture Control profiles available

Thanks for the info.

I tried to add both of them to my d300 but for some reason, I couldn't add a ninth picture control. I also have all D2X modes loaded in the camera as well. Is there a limit to how many picture controls can be loaded into the camera?

Must be a limit, as I had to overwrite my one D2x Mode. I chose to overwrite D2x Mode 2.

Ole,

When you are saying "I had loaded 4 picture controls which came with camera" - what do you mean by that? Why have you had to load them?

Thanks for the heads up Ole

Nikon is really kickin some butt lately. Cameras, lenses, software and picture controls, etc.
They really seem serious about trying to acquire more market share.

A little heads up on Picture Controls please?

Specifically, what are they? I assume it is something similar to the custom curves that could be loaded into my old D70?

I’ve had the D300 for about 2 weeks now and haven’t gotten around to figuring this part out.

If nothing else, could someone tell me, if you shoot in NEF and process your shots with CS3, do these Picture Controls do anything for you, or do they only apply to in camera Jpgs and NEF file processed in CaptureNX?

Thanks.

Yes I know that came out a little confusing, I added the 4 standard Picture Controls that comes with the camera firmware to the sentence later than the D2X modes.

So to be more specific, I have not loaded the 4 standard Picture Controls (STANDARD, NEUTRAL, VIVID, MONOCHROME), and I haven't deleted them either, because I can't, but they are loaded by the firmware ; )

Yes, they apply only to in camera JPEGs and NEF files opened in NX or ViewNX.

Ole,

But manual says that you can load 9 custom picture controls. Am I missing something? I have not tried to load yet.

How do you add these new Picture Controls to NX2

I have the DX Modes in there but I'll be darned if I remember how I did it.

Yes there is 9 user Picture Controls

Yes that is user modified Picture Controls, while the other 5 (the 3 D2X modes, Landscape, Portrait) is Nikon provided Picture Controls. They are basic Picture Controls, containing more basic information than the user modified Picture Controls, which must be based on one of the basic Picture Controls.
