thanks!

They don't say much about the prism, if same as in D3 or not.

But dust removal and built-in flash great! They also say price is 2,500Euro, 2,000Uero less than D3. This would translate to a similar value in dollars, since D3 is now 4,800 USD in the US. Likely lauch at 3,000USD but prices will start to drop soon.

Re: D700 scan

Many thanks for this scan! I am very tempted to sell my D2X to get this baby - i like the available light performance of the fx sensor and the fact that my beloved 1.2/55 is stil exactly that. :))

Greetings Andy

How do you open the CF door?

How do you open the CF door? It seems you do it from the side of the grip and not from the back as in the D300. There is anew buttom there labeled... Info?

Bigger viewfinder/prism, bigger shutter, bigger sensor, bigger LCD...??? The only extra you get with a D2X is an 'empty' battery grip... add the battery to the final weight...

Re: How do you open the CF door?

Does it look taller than the D300 to anyone? I for one am hoping it'll be nicer to hold than the D200/D300 size bodies, yet remain more compact than the D3.

I dont like the fact that it has the zoom controls from the D300, i dont see whats wrong with the D200/D3 method of zooming.. so why change it?

Fair points ...

It's interesting that the Canon 5D is a fair bit lighter :> http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos5d/

Cosmetic Changes from the D300

1. Round eyepiece w shutter and new style diopter adjust
2. Orientation of the AE-L and AF-L button
3. Release lever for CF card (on side?)
4. Info button moved from the 'protect' button to position adjacent to CF light
5. Lack of LCD screen cover
6. New style covers on 10-pin remote and PC sync
7. Raised bar separating playback and delete buttons

Others? dave

The given weight is WITH the battery

As crappy as my German is, I think that "gewicht mit akku" means "weight with battery".

If that's the case, then the camera is only about 100 grams heavier than 5D.

Yes, it is lighter, but compared to the (rumored) D700 it misses:

  • Weatherseals (same as D300 I guess).

  • Built-in flash.

  • Sensor cleaner (or dust filter or whatever it is called).

  • 3" LCD with tempered glass.

Hey, even the DX D300 is heavier at 825/903 gr. vs 5D's 810/895 gr. (w and w/o battery), and not that far away from the rumored D700 weight: 1076 gr. (battery included?).

So I guees it is all about the few extras and construction quality (in the Nikons). Let's see how much a 5DII weights with all those additions...

Regards.

I really appreciate that you presented the figures the way you did!

Re: The given weight is WITH the battery

That's a correct interpretation. Weight is with battery.

Re: D700 scan

Looks like the finder has the cover built in, like the D2x, F5, just flip the lever, no more plastic cover to loose.

Re: D700 scan

The multiselector and focuspoint lever has been moved down and slightly to the right a bit. Other buttons almost identical placement to the D300's.
