If true, it should be a killer walkaround lens on FF

Where did you get this fax from ? If this is true (and it certainly looks authentic), then it should be a killer walkaround lens on FF.

1. Hope A900 will provide central AF sensor capable to work with such slow lens.

2. If it is real and sharp wide open and controls CA well then it may be good rival to KM 28-75/2.8.

A900 does. If I were you, I would move both 28-75 & 70-210 to get this F/4.

This means just one thing... is very probable other Alpha with least MPx sensor because I don't think a 24MPx camera come with a lens like this and if Sony has in the market a 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 G SSM in 799$, I don't think this lens come more expensive...

Re: If true, it should be a killer walkaround lens on FF

This lens is fine for the A900.

Just look at canon, 5D was kitted with the 4/24-105. A 5DII, will surely again see the 4/24-105.

A nice happy F4 lens, very little fall off at the corners, gives up speed for sharpness, sounds perfect.

Maybe a lens for the A800?

You know, the one based on the A700's body, but with a 12 megapixel sensor.

i think it's fake

i have a copy of the manual for the 35 1.4g

and there are several discrepancies

on the bottom, on the faxed photo, they have the newer G logo printed. On mine, all it says is just G specifically, "35F14G"

the shaded borders look kinda off too.

maybe they're changing this?

Re: i think it's fake

Read carefully. This is faxed. That means that the guy who faxed it put the manual on a sheet of white paper and it went through the machine like this. That's the source of the shaded borders.
Also, the layout looks exactly the same as present Sony zoom lenses.

Re: i think it's fake

Looks true to me.

I think the Current 24-105mm f2.5-4.5 is already a great lesn even without the SSM. Its clutch internal focusing design that allows non rotation of fovus ring at AF really make it feels like an "SSM" already.

I just got back from a two day event with the 24-105mm (minolta) coupled with the 70-300mm G SSM and they really paired well. Similar FIlter Size!!!!!!! thats the key!!!

Filter size will be 77mm

If we go by Canon's version, the 24-105 f/4L IS, comes with a 77mm filter size, just like the 24-70 f/2.8 version. I would expect the Sony to have the same filter size too.

This new lens is not a variable aperture consumer zoom lens like the current 24-105 f/3.5-4.5. It is a constant aperture f/4 zoom, and being a "G", will have pro-grade build and specifications, just like the Canon "L".

I still think this is genuine

There are some differences between the way the lettering is done in the 70-300SSM G manual and this one, but I still think this is genuine.

The 70-300SSM G depicts the lens as "70-300 f4.5-5.6 G SSM", while in this case, the "G" is missing between the aperture and the "SSM".

The Sony code for the lens below that, is depicted as SAL24105G, with the "G" in a logoized fashion. The 70-300G depicts the Sony code as SAL70300G, with the "G" as a plain letter and not logoized.

In spite of this, I think this is genuine, since I have not seen a rigid consistency in the way Sony has been printing their manuals for the various lenses.

Interesting. Looks like Sony is finally on the SSM bandwagon.

Now if they would just make all the CZ lenses SSM...

Hmm, interesting.

The current one (ala KM re-badge) is selling for about £400. Wonder what this will come in at, and will this mean the demise of the older model? Maybe not..as its lower down (though the price is poor really in the uk)

Let's SSM everything! Low and high end stuff

A very pleasant surprise . . .

super walkaround for someone who wants higher quality than 18-250 (sacrificing range, of course).
