"TinEye Image Search Engine" - What I found!

The topic of "TinEye" is starting to pop up all over various forums, blogs, over at PDN, etc., ... and I finally had a chance to sit down and to try this out a bit more in depth.

This is some cool stuff in my opinion, and I along with many other photographers are having high hopes for this method of searching for your images that are being used on the internet or in print, ..... authorized or unauthorized.

Here are a few brief comments of mine on TinEye, along with a sample image that I used to find unauthorized use, and also a few screenshots.

(Link directly to post not working for some reason. Use link below)
http://macroartinnature.wordpress.com/

Follow the link to TinEye and sign up for the beta version, and give it a try.
Never know what you might find!

If you sign up to try out the beta version, you could be approved by e-mail anywhere from 15 minutes to a couple of days.

And no, ... I'm not getting paid for this neither!

Just thought I would give everyone a heads up on something that I think could be very useful in the future, especially those who are in this game full time.

Take care everyone,
Michael

Fantastic !

Ownership of an image only means something if you know when it has been stolen. This could be an amazing development for the lone artist - the "little guy" to finally have some say over his own intellectual property. Thanks very much for posting !

Re: "TinEye Image Search Engine" - What I found!

Leila Boujnane was kind enough to allow me 20 invitations for individuals to give the "TinEye Image Search Engine" a try.
You will not have to sign up for the beta waiting list.

This is "first come, ... first served", ... immediate approval.
(I only have 17 invitations left right now)

Follow this link to my Photoshelter Archives.

In the upper left corner under my handsome face, click on "Contact Photographer".
Then, ... simply send me your name and e-mail address.
I will send the "TinEye" invitation to you as soon as I receive the message.

Please note:

Today is Father's Day here in the states, so I may be gone for awhile later today.

Thanks

I'm going to send an email. This sounds like a great product - and a great idea.
Photographers need to understand what happens to their images.

Scanner Decoding CAPTCHA

Looks like they're using that CAPTCHA system used to facilitate OCR. Essentially, while OCR has progressed significantly since its use was begun, machine interpretation still fails sometimes. A CAPTCHA security system showing garbled letters is displayed to prevent machine registrations. It looks like the text for this CAPTCHA system comes from scanned text.

This serves a dual purpose. First is the system to prevent machine autoregistrations. The other is to have you and I help to perform the OCR of the scanned documents. Two words are presented. One is a known word. The other is unknown. If the known word is entered correctly, whatever is typed for the unknown word is added to the database. If multiple humans identify the word with the same spelling, that spelling is used as the interpretation of the scan.

Pretty cool, huh?

Re: Scanner Decoding CAPTCHA

Dude, .......... way over my head!! : )
My son probably could figure out what you are saying.

He often spills out a whole bunch wiz-bang, techno gure stuff at me, ... then I promptly tell him to leave me alone!

Still, ... TinEye will probably be added to my business, allowing me to send out a few more bills per month than I normally would.

Take care Victor,
Michael

Basically...

Those words that you have to type when registering come from scanning documents. What you type when registering is used to determine what the scan actually represents. This way, old, scanned printed documents are converted into online documents that can be searched.

I don't know what's going on with Tineye. I just signed up yesterday or the day before. There was no waiting for an invitation at all, as had been the case last June.

I found this url through Google: http://ideeinc.com/products/tineye/

Seems doubtful that Tineye could go under within 24 hours. I bet somebody hacked it.

Thanks Michael for the info. With a terrible slow dialup connection I rarely poke around the web these days. Seems most all web pages are designed for hi-speed connection these days.
