Epson 2400 EOL

Just received a quotation of 2400 & 3800 from my dealer.

They mention 2400 was EOL (end of life).

Re: Epson 2400 EOL

I would think that the 3800 was near that too. The higher range models have the better ink set (vivid magenta and better resistance to bronzing) and in the case of the 3800, on board matt black but not the newer ink set. I would expect (hope) to see those techologies merging in the pro range soon. Including the 2400 replacement. We shall see. (Maybe something better)

On edit, I-Photo states that the print output from the 3800, with the same ink set as the 2400, is better so perhaps the engine has also been upgraded and that too will be passed along to the 2400 upgrade.

The 3800 uses a newer screening algorithm than the R2400, i.e., ink mixing and dot placement are somewhat different. You'd have to examine the prints closely and be pretty picky to tell, though.

This is what Vincent says at Photo-i (on the page about Silverfast printer calibration software)

"I will do a full review on the SilverFast Printer Calibration option over the next week using the new ????? printer from ?????? (full details of this new printer will be made public on the 23 May) "

Would that be the R2400 successor???

Re: Epson 2400 EOL

I think that is a fair assessment and a replacement has been overdue. With the new inkset development and other printer releases it follows that the R2400 and 3800 are set for phase out.
