Credible? Not.

Poster started less than 24 hours ago and only has 2 posts.

My opinion is this is just a cruel joke.

Re: 1DIII needs fixing

Canon, of course, wouldn't want to leave its 1D III userbase hanging for the reasons you mentioned. But does it make much sense to have finally fixed the camera towards the end of its product lifecycle?

I don't believe we'll see an update to the 1D III this year.

1) What is your source for this information (not doubting you, just
curious)?

He could tell you, then he'd have to kill us all

2) What reason would Canon have for letting the US Navy know about
this firmware update, as opposed to letting sports news agencies know
about it instead?

Re: Canon 1DMkIII update

Not bad at all. Props to the Navy.

Blue Dot topic: Does that still exist because I got my 1D mk III last week and had the reps search the entire stock room for a blue dot box and it was just non existing. So i called Canon from the store just to make sure that i was getting a new version other than one that has been sitting there since Nov/Dec. Canon said to me that the Blue Dot is no longer being put on the boxes and that only certain serial numbers had the issue. So now you can check ur serial number to see if the problem was corrected before leaving the Canon warehouse. My AF seems to be on point so far.

Thanks Colin....

Sounds like they're really doing it. Maybe the camera will finally work as advertised now. It will be interesting to see what the new custom functions are.

I hope this update is a direct result of the reported breakthrough we heard about when Canon engineers (supposedly) discovered the "root cause" of all the focus trouble.

Wouldn't that be great....... finally........

Just wondering if anyone had tried to interpret the Japanese website - I would have thought that the new FW might have appeared there before in the U.K.?

Egg on face?

Since one of the rules on this board is that 12 of every 4 false rumors get debunked, it's usually good policy to keep an open but skeptical mind about these things.

Of course time will tell how effective "the fix" will be.

Nikon mode?

Ahhh. That explains everything.

They added a Nikon mode to the custom functions and forgot to give us a way to disable it. The "root cause fix" simply brings the CF out for adjustment (disable).

I dunno about 51200, but I wouldn't mind a usable 12800 that didn't turn everything into an impressionist painting (ala Nikon NR). Until then I think 6400 is exceptional.

More features for custom functions? Sounds like more things Canon will tell me to "try out" when my Mark III didn't focus as reliably as my Mark IIn did.
