Looks like another pancake lens coming soon...

I was browsing through Olympus website and noticed interesting thing about their demo on E-420 and pancake lens, here are some screenshots:

This picture clearly shows 25mm f/2.8 pancake lens announced as a kit with E-420. Now look at next one:

Look closer on the lens, and you'll notice it's not the same one. This one is little longer and has different focusing ring (it's narrower and moved to the front edge rather than covering most of the barrel). From the size of this lens I suspect it is wide angle.

To me it is the 14-42. Or, maybe on second thought.......

looks like a small zoom on the second image ...

note that it has markings "xx-yy f/xx-yy" on its bezel.

It has only one ring on barrel so...

...it's either prime, or zoom without focusing ring (which is unlikely).

Maybe an early sample of the 25mm? ...

Well, the left lens on the second Image clearly is the 14-42mm.

But the lens on the right side in the second image is puzzling: not a zoom lens, a new one (blue stripe), not a pro grade lens, but definitely not the 25mm by comparison...

Best,

Claus.

:):):):)

The first image - is not the original image of 25/2.8 prime - this is the image of proto/concept

And the second, third and fourth images in that flash promo are the REAL images of e-420+25/2.8 combo - so no new leaks about any new lenses

Re: :):):):)

I agree, the second image of the second frame looks like a WA prime.

Oly's chief engineer mentioned recently that they have other primes in the making, after the 25mm.

It would be a very good move. Especially so if they re-evalue the E-4x0, and perhaps even miniaturise IS inside (wet dream).

Not so fast...

Here is another screenshot:

Compare it to previous with 'large' pancake:

These are definitely not the same lenses, so we have a least two 'proto/concepts' here, or at least one totally different lens.

Definitely not the same lens. And 14-42 is in both left pictures.

So yeah, either a wide angle or possibly 40-45mm portrait prime?

Err... Exactly what?

I mean there are two alternatives: they published two different prototypes, or one prototype and one different lens. Which one your 'exactly' referring to?

Re: Err... Exactly what?

I hope for more primes too!

But, I'm sure that it isn't a real leak - and only not-very-good designer job when making that flash :-/

Re: Err... Exactly what?

You narrowed it down to exactly the possible alternatives (like I did in my first post in this thread). Everything else is speculation or would require insider knowledge...

Cheers,

Claus.
