Re: Info about 5DmkII announcement?

He says that in an interview from last April ('07), a
Canon VP said that they had started on a new full size sensor model.
And that since a camera generally spends about 1.5 years in
development, would it not be reasonable to expect the new full size
model to be released at Photokina.

Sorry, it seems to me that an interviewer asked an oposite meaning question.
The translation should be

"would it not be unreasonable to expect the new full size model to be released at Photokina."

As a result, same answer from the oposite question becomes different intention.

Re: The german has no spelling errors. It is correct.

Hi Niclas,

I think you are right about the editing of the 5D photo. I also compared the pictures yesterday and had a strange feeling about the the 5D body from the screenshot - all being identical appart from a few positions.

Thanks for pointing that out, but I AFIK we both said the same thing. The interviewer obviously thinks Canon will be releasing their 5DII at photokina. Double negatives can be used with no problem in Japanese but they aren't so good in English, and I didn't want the interviewer to sound like a rube.

Yes, and if we want to be really nit-picky the whole text paragraph, at the right of it, is one pixel off compared to all the others, and as some other poster pointed out earlier the new 5D image doesn't fit the image frame the same way as the others either.

Well, I guess just because some joker decided to create a German website scam it doesn't mean that the previous April 22 rumors couldn't be true. Unless it's the same joker.

The main point...

.... is that there is a 5D follow on coming. At times there have speculation that Canon might not do it (because of low volume or low total profit).

The point of not committing is more of a Japanese thing.

können sie Deutsch lesen? I can!

Of course, you saw the 16mp... then 6.5 frames per second, and weather sealed (wetterfeste, weather-fast). Probably zehr teuer (pretty expensive) to start, ja?

Well usually nobody commits to a product until they actually announce it. Canon has followed a very regular pattern starting with the announcement of the 1D Mark II at PMA 2004. So far the cycle starting with the announcement of the 1D Mark III at PMA 2007 has been essentially an exact replication of the earlier cycle. Canon has had a late August announcement every year since the announcement of the 300D in 2003. Surprises are always possible. But the odds heavily favor the announcement of the 5D upgrade this August with availability in volume by the end of September.

Es ist fälsch........

There is nothing wrong with the German as far as i'm concerned. But, the pic of the 5D mkII is a fake. The grip section has been replaced with something like the grip of a 20/30D. That is why it looks stretched. If you look at the Canon.de website now, all the cameras are in one line with each other.
I also don't believe the 6.5 fps. It could believe 4.5 fps, but not 6.5 fps.

Regards,

Rob
