onOne Liquid Resize Preview

DPReview had a news article about seam carving here:

Then another about OnOne acquiring the technology in January:

onOne have just emailed to say a preview is now avaiable at:

The performance of this beta is slow, but they state that "a much faster implementation of the algorithm" is planned.

Hope this link is of interest to many!

Quick example with a blown-out old photograph!

  • Top is original

  • Middle uses photoshop to reduce height to 70%

  • Bottom uses the onOne beta to reduce height to 70%

Note the strange effects to the line of the bottom-most lock, and the chain link furthest away. An explaantion of the algorithm can be found here:

Gimp has had the LQR plugin forsome time now!

I've been using it off and on for ca. 6 months now. The nicest (though slowest) application is using Liquid Resizing to double the dimensions on an image without enlarging the noise, then resizing back to the original size with a different algorithm (lanczos) to get rid of the noise.

Not quite the same thing, but I just noticed that in the latest version of Apple's Safari Browser, if I click on an image link that then displays just a single JPG in a browser window, changing the size of the browser window resizes the image if the image can't fit in the resized window. It used to just cover it up.
