Firmware 1.1.1 update issue

Hi, I've just done the new 5D firmware 1.1.1 update - followed it to the tee! and my camera LCD screen flashed off and the red read led went off just after it started and hasn't come back!!! I waited about 8 mins before trying anything - pushing the menu button, play button but nothing!

I turned it off and back on again and the top led has data on and it appears to focus and read exposure but wont take a picture and the LCD screen wont come back on.

Any ideas what to do now?

Anybody done it successfull?

Thanks - I really need help.

Same thing happened to me, so here's what you should do (I think!). Take out the batteries and charge them. then put them back fully charged and turn the camera on... it worked for me.

Re: Firmware 1.1.1 update issue

As the previous post said. I changed the battery and I turned my camera on this morning and it was back to life at firmware 1.1.0

Thank God! I'm sticking to this version.

Regards to all

Re: Firmware 1.1.1 update issue

Canon has recommended with other updates that the lens is removed before the update process begins - although I didn't see any recommendation to do that this time, I always do it and had no probs updating.

I just installed it from 1.1.0 and everything was fine.

Removing Lens

I had a somewhat similar problem a while back, updating the firmware on (if I remember) a 20D. The update had hung after I ignored the advice to remove the lens before doing the update. I replaced the battery (after restarting the camera), removed the lens (put a body cap on instead) and was able to proceed with the update.

I only have one 5D, and it just doing fine with the upgrade.

After upgrade, I do not feel anything more.

Re: Firmware 1.1.1 update issue

Sounds like you didn't follow the advise to charge the battery first. Any EPROM requires full voltage to flash. Most are flashed connected with a 120V power supply. Canon allowes you to use the camera, but stipulates that you charge the battery first.

Did you follow the summary instructions (8 or so bullet items) or the detailed instructions, 5 pages? The summary instructions have at least 1 maybe two errors, so you should read all of the pages first.

no...

If you try to upgrade the FW with a LOW battery it will warn you and stop. try it.. It will only go ahead with a full battery... it's not that stupid...

For me update worked as a charm... no issues/remarks whatsoever.
