Phottix Wireless Remote - New Version - D300

I just received the Phottix wireless remote I ordered off of eBay. It's the newer "Cleon" model, which offers several improvements over the original.

1. The receiver can be used as a wired remote, with or without a battery.

2. The receiver adds a 2-second delay function and B-mode.

3. The unit is more compact (VERY small!) than the original version.

The quality of this unit is amazing for the price I paid (less than $30 US, including shipping and insurance).

I have posted some photos of this new model, mounted on my D300:

Is it official that Cleons are now shipped instead of N1s or are some people still getting N1s? Also sent email to HK Supplies asking the same.

Saw that.....

.. it seems to be "official"; see this thread .. :

but find it strange that there is no mention of Cleon in HK Supplies' adds or on Phottix's web site. Is it really bait and switch favoring the customer? Not something we see very often but I guess at those prices anything goes.

Re: Saw that.....

They do probably need to update their listings to reflect the new model. But it was a very nice surprise to get the improved model.

N2 Not Shipping - So I'm Told

I've emailed HK twice in the last couple of weeks and both times the response I received was that they had no N2 (Cleon) units for the D300 in stock or shipping. FWIW.

thanks for this link. It sure looks impressive compared to the Nikon alternative.

As I searched eBay for this I noticed they carry a time lapse control as well. Very interesting indeed. Way cool.

Derek:

But if you had read the posts in that thread, you will find that everyone who had ordered the N1 recently received the Cleon.

I ordered mine on January 23rd and I received the Cleon. This was my first order from them. It came with a sheet of paper saying the N1 has been discontinued and the Cleon is the latest model. The Cleon also comes in a very nice display box. As Bill said, HKSupplies needs to update its website. But with Chinese New Year being on February 7th, they might be too busy preparing for the new year, not a good business practice, I must add.

The Cleon is wonderful.

As Ron pointed out, David Chin has a nice review on his site:

Why would you be interested in time lapse??? The D300 has that feature built in, to me that would seem very redundant to purchase a time lapse control for a camera with time lapse control...

Read all relevant threads and reviews....

But if you had read the posts in that thread

before posting yesterday. This can easily be done by doing a Google WEB search on > cleon site:forums.dpreview.com

Will probably order a MC-30 later. Wireless remote can wait.

Re: Phottix Wireless Remote - New Version - D300

Because as I said I just found that interesting, plus you can use it as a shutter release. For the same reason Nikon sells the MC-36, which also has time lapse.

To quote on the MC-36

The Nikon MC-36 Multi-Function remote cord provides a simple trigger function and can activate the bulb function on Nikon SLR cameras. It also functions as a timer remote and can be programmed to function as an intervalometer. It connects to Nikon SLR cameras that are equipped with the 10-pin remote socket.

For those that are interested, great. For those that are not, please move on.

Hope this helps you understand more fully my intent.

Re: Phottix Wireless Remote - New Version - D300

I'm a little late to this thread but the following is the answer I received on Feb. 2 from HKSupplies in response to a question asking if I would be getting a Cleon or N1 if I purchased an eBay-listed Phottix N1 from them:

Dear ebay name removed ,

we are now in PMA in Las Vegas.
we are now showing this new model in PMA
and people are very impressed.
You can just bid this one and we ship the
cleon to you without extra cost.

we sell some sample here at
US$60.
regards
ken

-etefore

I should be receiving mine this week.

Incidentally, I've ordered several times from HKSupplies and find them to be exceptional sellers.

Actually, I just used the "ask seller a question" option that appeared on an eBay listing for a Phottix N1. The response came very quickly, also by way of eBay messaging.

I'm hesitant to purchase because 1) I need a remote SRB (doesn't have
to be wireless) like yesterday, 2) Not really a great fan of Ebay, 3)
Bait and switch raises a flag, 4) Seller not coming clean on this
pre-sales issue. Something may hit the fan later.

Will probably order a MC-30 later. Wireless remote can wait.

.. you can do what you want - e.g., cut off nose to spite face - but ordering the Cleon is a "Buy Now" function on eBay from a seller with a long record of satisfied customers who is selling a well-built product which does what it is advertised to do (actually more) ...

The N1 was a great product relative to any alternatives; the Cleon is a 'home run' ...

.. fwiw ..

Re: Phottix Wireless Remote - New Version - D300

I ordered one last week. After searching the HK store on eBay and failing to find the Cleon, I also used the 'ask seller...' on one of the older N1's, they responded within hours that they were all Cleon. They don't have a 100% rating, but all of the reports here on the forum seem to have been positive. I probably wouldn't have ordered it if David Chin hadn't done those thorough reviews though.
