Using Rawshooter Essentials with my E510

I tried to use a copy of RSE with my E-510 and it did not seem to recognise any of its ORF files.

I then converted them all into DNG files but it STILL did not recognise these files even though I thought that DNG was meant to be a standard format.

I subsequently read somewhere that RSE looks not only at the file format but also the camera model information embedded into the file. I thus opened the executable file for RSE and using a hex text editor changed all the cases where it had the text 'Olympus E-500' for the phrase 'Olympus E-510' and suprise, suprise it now opens my DNG files from my E-510.

Anyone else have any more tips using RSE with an E-510 - e.g. profiles?

you can use my tool "dngpatch" (www.rawsamples.ch) to patch the dng's. unfortunatly i hadn't time to translate the tool into english but it is in progress now.....so check my website regulary.

Very clever...

As RawShooter essentials and later RawShooter Premium were well received when available, this hack can be very useful.

I've read rumors regarding something similar to RawShooter coming n the near future and I'm hopeful.

While I am using Lightroom a bit I much prefer the streamlined inteface of the RawShooter products.

Not to mention the speed -- RSE/RSP were able to assign export jobs to all available CPUs, something that Lightroom is still not capable of.

I have a four-processor system, and it is infuriating to watch Lightroom slowly process images one at a time with 25% overall CPU utilization instead of loading up all the CPUs. That's the case not only with a single export job containing multiple images, but also when running multiple export jobs from different image libraries.

Torsten,

Agreed!

While there are some features I like about LR processing, the speed of RSP, in many cases, outweighs those features.

new Raw Shooter Forum

Some of those posting on the (Adobe) Pixmantec forum have started a new forum in the event the Pixmantec forum is taken down. You may want to post info there re: your patch. Link is http://pub31.bravenet.com/forum/2601722344/
