5D production ceased in November- 7D filling the warehouse

If Canon were not to release the 7D at the conference on Thursday , that what are they going to do with all of the 7Ds' that they have built in the last month ?

The die is cast and the deed is done. Let us hope that with the change there has been no step backward in regards to IQ.

Who are you going to believe- Me or your lying eyes !

The information concerning the production stop is from a tool supply company in Japan. They are not aware of details of the 7D, only of the fixtures that they supplied and the timing of those items.

It will all be obvious in 2 days, don't shoot the messenger.

Give me a break. 11 months ago you wrote you were "desperate" for a 5D replacement, and in the last few months -- totally without evidence -- you've claimed that the 5D replacement was coming out. Now you suddenly have proof? Please, you're just cherry-picking rumors that confirm your desires.

Re: who sais there's a conference on thursday?

I think he's referring to the alleged date for Canon's pre-PMA announcement (PMA starts next week).

Sorry, Bill, but the silence is defening ...

... There's nothing else out there to collaborate your statement. And the UPC site you have referred to in the past is far from a reliable source.

No reliable leaks on the name (model number) or specs ... no credible rumers.

Just can't see how a 5D replacement is anywhere near ready to launch.

Hi!

The head of Canon in Sweden said they would launch new products on Thursday (24th) in an interview in a Swedish magazine. He did NOT say anything (i.e. NOTHING) about what products.

If you read Swedish, the article is here:

So it will be interesting to see what is revealed on Thursday:-)!

... for niklas sharing the link and confirming there's something in the air. if canon brings out a new 5D it will be in this 2 days before the conference, like it is always with new canon DSLRs.

Re: Sorry, Bill, but the silence is defening ...

I was out walking my dog this morning and a little boy confirmed to me that there is definately going to be a new Canon 5D replacement. It will be announced at 6.15 on Sunday morning and that each of the first 100 buyers will be given a free whippet.

The new camera will be much quieter, have a self cleaning sensor and will be able to lick its own bottom.

That is an essential feature, and I, for one, say that it's about time.

That's a promising start, but if it can't lick my bottom as well, then no deal.

Yes I can confirm that!

Was at Best Buy today ... ran into my neighbor's son's friend, who is the assistant manager of the camera department (after school, that is ... he's in 12th grade) ... who confirmed that the local Canon rep told him that will announce at the PMA a new DSLR with a "whippet", cleans itself, and also eliminates wrinkles (it shares the same UPC as a P&G anti-aging product under the Oil of Olay brand, which explains why the 5D UPC has a P&G mfg code).

No one's heard about it on the photography boards because it was field tested by cosmeticians at Walgreens (apparently it's been leaked on cosmetic web sites for months)...

Gotta admit, the kid knew his stuff ... asked if it would use EF and ES lenses, have 6400 ISO, and 8 FPS, and he said "yes, just like the new 3D! So now we know that there will be a 7D AND a 3D!

So Bill, is the 5D discontinued?

Since production stopped back in November, per your sources, and the 5D continues to sell well, inventory should run out in the next few months. In fact, demand should increase in the near term, now the folks waiting for an upgrade or replacment know it's not happening anytine soon and go out and make that 5D purchase.

In fact, if the 5D is in short supply, prices may rise. The 5D may be getting old by DSLR standards, but it's a classic. Look what happened to the Fuji F30/31's after they were replaced ...
