Re: New firmware for D80 (version 1.1)

I was about to say this has been out for ages BUT I was thinking of 1.01 not 1.1 hopefully this is completely new and comes out over US/UK soon.

Then again 1.01 was a fix to improve long exposure Noise reduction so maybe it's not new.....

Re: New firmware for D80 (version 1.1)

Looks as if it is primarily a fix for long-exposure noise reduction, possibly having it kick in at 1 second instead of 8 seconds (or adding the option to have it do so).

Hopefully an English version will be out soon.

Re: New firmware for D80 (version 1.1)

I was hoping it would fix the problem where the frames per second rate was severely cut when long exposure noise reduction was turned on.

Bummer.

It's on the Australian site...

It's on the Australian site:

http://nikonasia-en.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/nikonasia_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=5747&p_created=1200300185&p_sid=Jx6h5pWi&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPSZwX3NvcnRfYnk9JnBfZ3JpZHNvcnQ9JnBfcm93X2NudD0xMjM1JnBfcHJvZHM9JnBfY2F0cz0mcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1hbnN3ZXJzLnNlYXJjaF9ubCZwX3BhZ2U9MQ**&p_li=&p_topview=1
-The product will be “Certified for Windows Vista".

-Support for the new USB Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) has been added. The PTP option in the setup menu's USB item will be modified to MTP/PTP. The icon will also be modified.

-The effects of noise reduction processing performed at shutter speeds of 1 - 8 s with shutter speed set to “bulb”, when On is selected for Long exp. NR in the shooting menu, have been improved.

Ok , have upgraded to V1.1, and still have a working camera....

Same deal as the last upgrade (to V1.01 ), exact same method of installation.

MAKE SURE YOUR BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED...!! it does take a few minutes to do.

Can't verify any of the Vista stuff as am using XP.

Re: It's on the Australian site...

I haven't downloaded the first update. Do you know if the second one includes the first as well, or do you have to do one then the other?

Re: It's on the Australian site...

Vandyu,

I had already installed the earlier firmware update, and it does not mention this as a requirement. I would check before trying, or install the V1.01 first.

I find it to be good practice to keep abreast of firmware updates, that way you can never be far out of synch with the current firmware standard.

Re: It's on the Australian site...

Thanks, Ian. I got my D80 in the fall of last year and read about the first firmware update, but decided if it wasn't broken, I wouldn't fix it. So, it's done well so far, but maybe it's time to update the camera's insides. I'm in the U.S. I'll see what's going on here.

Re: It's on the Australian site...

My understanding is that you DO have to upgrade to 1.01 BEFORE installing 1.1.

Here is the instruction

which took me a while to find. I hope someone will find this useful.

1.
Download and expand the firmware files
2.
Format an approved SD card in the camera
3.
Connect Camera to computer (in MSC USB mode) or use a SD Card Reader
4.
Copy to the top level of the card the downloaded "A firmware" file
5.
Disconnect camera from computer
6.
Update the firmware from the "Setup" menu
7.
Follow the camera's on-screen menus
8.
Repeat steps 2 through 7 using the "B Firmware"
9.
Re-format Card

Cracks?

For one thing, they know Mac users don't need no stinking updates!

Just kidding, OK. So, at the bottom of the link offered above for Australia, third item up, download for Mac

BTW, anyone knows of a cracked version that will allow the D80 to behave as the D200?

Re: and what about the Mac users? r we suckers?

Can't find a pointer to the installation instructions anywhere on the site. How, exactly, do you do it? My D80 came with 1.01, so I've never investigated.
