Re: My 2007 offering (pics)

Those are really exceptional photos. Something about the contrast and focus brings the color out. Thanks for sharing those.

Beautiful macros, Stephen.

Your photo of the viaduct and village is really exceptional, with fine composition, color, and exposure. Hope it's hanging on a wall.

Some great work there Martin.

Thanks for the inspiration. I think the shot from below of the couple dancing is the best I've seen from that little trick. Nice work, all of it.

Re: Very nice, but sorry about Bluebell Woods

Really pretty shots. Were these all taken with the S5? JPEG or Raw?

Sorry that Bluebell Woods has partly given way to a highway, but at least you got the picture before that happened.

Great shots, Dave. Glad you had a chance to travel in the US recently. You took good advantage of the West's wide open spaces.

Your daughters are adorable, although number 2 looks a bit miffed.

Not necessarily the best of '07 but what I have available to share All with Fuji S3 and a cheap Tamron Zoom. Minimal photoshop - basically crop, levels/curves and sharpen on all these.

Re: Post your Favorite Fuji DSLR photos for 2007 (AJs Dad)

Andy, What lens were you using. The eyes on the first two are very nice and sharp. Care to share the settings and your secrete on getting the eyes so sharp with a cheap (your words) Tamaron lens. The S3 is an amazing camera.

For Dave

Thank you Dave for the kind words!

The lens is a Tamron 28-75 F2.8 Di - I think it is a great lens for the money but I'd love to have the $1400 Nikon version - it's sharper at f2.8 - f4 than the Tamron.

For the first shot, it was a simple over/under setup. Photgenic monolight with a 24" parabolic reflector (aka beauty dish) as the main light (metered f8) and a second monolight at near floor level about 1 stop less than the main light with a small softbox as the light modifier.

The second shot was a large softbox as the main light modifier metered about f4.5. I had to drop down to f4.5 to get the supersaturated green onto the background paper.

No secret on getting sharp focus on the eyes other than I use the eyes as my focal point and recompose.

Re: For Dave

Oops...forgot the camera info

Both the first shots were set the same, Fine jpg, F1 mode, dynamic range auto, custom white balance, sharpening std.

For Will

Thanks Will. The colours, especially in the macros, owe a lot to some very targeted PP.

Thanks Joe

Thank you for the comments, Joe, and for starting this great thread.

The nightscape may well end up on my wall. I'm still deciding which of many images I want printed large and framed. Paralysed by choice at the moment
