>>>The Sunday Black & White: Unofficial Release 1<<<

Heck, we have Sunday birds, kids, cats, and so forth. So, I thought, following the footstep of Adrianox black and white 2007, I might as well start a Sunday Black & White.

I do hope that this would be a permanent thread every Sunday thus encourage me to go out there and shoot black and white.

Any camera welcome. If you want to discuss your conversion process (technique/software) that would be cool too. If you want a C&C of your image, please mark it as 'C&C requested'. If you just want to share your B&W image that's cool too.

So, I'll start...image in next post

Nice idea Nick. Too cold for me to venture out today, so this one from indoors.
E-500, 14-54, processed in LY + CS3 with an Alien Skin conversion....

Best wishes

Mike

One more...

An old silo:

E-1 w/14-54
f/8.0
1/320
46mm

As with the vast majority of my B&W shots, this one shot in color and converted using PS Gradient Map.

Beach Restoration B&W

I was taught that the best B&W conversion comes from a great color image. Hopefully, this is the case with this image.

Nice patterns and geometric study. I like particularly the graduation of grays. Are you using the Exposure and tri-x filter? I used to shoot tri-x during my film days.

Cheers

Nice contrast. I like how PS Gradient render the grass and the distant trees. How do you like it with people shot or skin tone?

Cheers

Re: Beach Restoration B&W

I like it! It has almost a 3d effect on it. IMO, it's very well done. Aside from starting from a color image, care to share your conversion process? Or, did you process your color first then convert?

Cheers

Nick,

The color original was post processed in Lightroom then converted in Photoshop using Adjustment Layers. First was a Channel Mixer then Levels. Another one follows this reply.
Thanks for the comments.

Bill,

Both are great. Makes me want to get off my butt and take drive down the street. They are constucting a new interchange and bridge near me and there are all sorts of construction vehicles clogging the area. I just need to grab my hard hat from work and a few business cards and I could probably get pretty close.

Re: One more...

Thanks for the comment.

Even when shooting portraits (or scenes with people in them), if I'm converting to B&W, I'll still use Gradient Map.

Usually though, I will adjust any skin tones (using channel mixer) while the photo is still color, and then convert.

one from me.

Here's a B&W take on the one I have in the Competition. Now I don't know which one I like better. I might try the good old Andy Warhol effect on it.

An oldie from me

I like the idea with a Sunday B&W thread. Good initiative.

Here is an old one I still have online:

I hope the thread will come back and live a healthy life here.

A few from an evening walk in the park

An evening walk through Boston Common. With an Olympus camera mind - but this time one a little older than my E510 - all with an OM2n, the 50mm 1.4 and some Kodak B&W ASA 400 film. Processed by paying 7 bucks to Walgreens and fiddling with the picture CD I got back in Gimp. C&C is always helpful to me. I can't remember the last roll of film I shot.

Sledding down Flag Staff Hill

Ice Skaters, Frog Pond on the Common

Still water under the bridge

Handing tickets out for god

C&C always welcome.
