Minolta Mirror Magazine
2

While discussing about the the 500mm mirror lens over at the Sony SLR forum Ron Co mentioned owners of the lens being in the 'Mirror Club' reminded me of my collection of the Minolta Mirror Magazine.

I have with me copies the Minolta Mirror spanning from 1980-1993 and is wondering if anyone know when was the first and last issue of the magazine. It will be nice if i can fill up the holes in my collections.

Paid about RM10.00 (3 USD) for each when they were first published and searching the web, some are asking for 20 USD right up to 69 USD for the 1979 issue.

Thanks in advance

Sorry pic taken with the A70 canon powershot, was lazy to remove the 500mm mirror currently attached to 5D and ran out of space to shoot the Minolta Mirrors with the mirror

Re: Minolta Mirror Magazine

I finally found one of my Minolta Mirror books, the 1976 issue about the American cowboy. In the process, I found my old Minolta SLR binders (which covered a lot of history and models up to the SRT 202). Back then I owned several Minoltas and still have my first SLR, the SRT 101, and what many feel was the best Minolta ever, the XE-7 (which was also sold by Leica, except with cosmetics and the Leica R lens mount, as the R3).

Not certain when Minolta started publishing the Mirror, but I do remember they were hard to come by (even non-Minolta photographers bought them). Oh, the Amphoto Minolta binder set (I gave the first edition to my cousin) were, and still are, great photographic reference guides.

Hi Wayne,

Thanks for your reply at least now I now the Mirror was published as early as 1976.

I started with X-700 in the early 80s, my elder brother who is also a Minolta user actually influenced me of the choice (so i can borrow his arsenal of lenses..lol) and yes he has the SRT-101 too, great camera.

Anyway during those hey days of my photography, collecting books, magazines and especially catalogues of all kinds of cameras was at its earnest. Today they don't produce so much printed materials to promote their products due to advent of the internet and that's sad (well maybe it does save a few trees).

Browsing through these 'old' references you find gems even in today's digital age.

chTan

Re: Minolta Mirror Magazine

The Minolta Mirror commenced publication in 1975. I see there was an issue in 1993 but don't know whether it was published after that.

I have copies for 1975, 76, 77, 78, 80, 82 and 89.

Provided they are not too expensive, I would be interested in getting any other issues that are available

Re: Minolta Mirror Magazine

Wonderful yearly magazine that began in 1975 and ran through 1993.

The magazine was conceived by Richard Bryant, a Minolta employee in Osaka. Richard retired in 1994, and the magazine ended its run.

I have 12 of them 1979,80,81,84,85,86,87,88,89,90,92 & 93 all in mint condition

This is a very good magazine with excellent reproduction. I have 76, 78-89, and 91-93. As you see I am missing 77 and 90 and would love to have those too - any reasonable offers?

A magazine of similar quality is the quarterly German magazine IPT. I have issues from the 1950's to 1995. Missing a few but hoping to find them one day. They are still a great read.

1985,1986 or ?? any one see me in there??

Greetings

I started with Minolta in 1985 when they (Mr. John Johnny) sent me the 9000 for a assignment I went on and stayed with Minolta till Sony took over in 2004. I hate Sony If I  were to own a Sony camera it would be the A900, A850, A700 or A100. Those are Minolta cameras 100%. My 9000 that I got from Minolta has a split image screen at my request, as I didn't trust AF at the time. Still own my G lenses. My 7D's are toast but there is a place I know that will repair them but not sure if it's worth it. I'm retired now and going back to shooting my 9000 and film.

So Minolta required/requested me to submit my work for the Mirror not sure if I ever made it in though. I never followed as I was to busy working as a photojournalist and traveling to find out. To be honest I didn't send in that much, although they paid me for my work so I don't know.

Roger Jones or Elite Photography

I miss Minolta every day.

I can't find my Mirrors

Regards

Roger

Re: 1985,1986 or ?? any one see me in there??

Hi Roger,

Just noticed your post re. anything in Minolta Mirror magazines by you. I have all the issues in mint condition and was looking for info on the 1973 45th anniversary magazine that is apparently the same format as Minolta Mirror.  Anyway, I looked at every issue from 1985 to 1993 and couldn't find anything with your name or Elite Photography.

Interestingly for me, I found an article in the 1993 issue on Posterisations by Ray Faggoter, an Australian photographer.  Ray was one of my high school teachers back in the mid 70's but back then I had no interest in photography. What a missed opportunity!!
