Very nice! It's really helpful to have something visual liek this. One thing though - why are there two 20mm lenses in the 18mm column?

Re: Then I have question

FA35/2 and FA50.4, is it reallly out of produce?
http://kmp.BDimitrov.de/
I trust most of his data, but I can believe that is out of produce.

http://www.pentax.co.jp/japan/products/filmcamera/lens/index35_ichiran.html
21 limited, 70 limited, DA14... I can't find any DAs.
Is update delayed?

http://www.pentax.co.jp/japan/products/filmcamera/lens/index35_ichiran_others.html
this is out of produce list.

http://www.pentaximaging.com/products/cameras/lenses/digital_35mm/telephoto.jsp
I can't find A50.2 and long zoom star lenses.
In zoom lens category, FA-J is blank.

Japanese site missed DA lenses, American site missed FA lenses - but I can't find 31 limited!

http://www.pentaxwebstore.com/products/photo_imaging/slr_lenses_page2
http://www.pentaxslr.com/lenses

http://www.pentax.com.au/pentax/index.cfm?pageID=4&pageRef=1&CFID=291511&CFTOKEN=26700680
I can't find 35/2.

I can't sure that lenses out of produce or not.
I e-mailed to Bojidar Dimitrov, but he did not reply.
I called to Pentax Korea, they said 35/2 and 50.4 is still producing.

If 35/2 and 50.4 is really out of produce,
I think Pentax will not produce full frame body.

in road map,
DA* 55.4 replaces FA* 85.4, and DA* 50-135/2.8 replaces 70-200/80-200.

If 35/2 is really out of produce, new DA 35mm f/?? SDM lens will not be DA*.
In 35mm, Pentax needs cheap DA lens. DA 35 SDM will replace current FA 35/2 AL.

I expect cheap 50mm(f/1.7 or f/1.8) new lens will comes in 2 years.

DA* 55.4 will be very expensive, it take 'HIGH', cheap new 50mm lens will take 'LOW' position. FA 50.7 is already out of produce. Pentax need cheap replace lens.

What will replaces 77 limited and FA* 85.4? 70 limited has too slow aperature.
70~90mm fast primes must come.
Tamron and Tokina don't have fast prime lens.

Nikon and Canon's 85.8 is very cheap, so they didn't produce that because it can't be have market share.
So, I think Pentax will not cooperation with third-party makers.
maybe new original Pentax DFA 85.8?

in roadmap, DFA 55mm f/2.8 645 is critical to new Pentax full frame camera.
it highly raises possibilty of producing 645D.

If Pentax releases new full frame body, what about Canon 5D mark2?
what about Sony a900? what about Nikon D3?
Is Pentax can beat them with low price and performance?
Cannon makes 5D about 2 years, they are beteran.
They can produce full-frame sensor much cheaper than other competitors.

Nikon has power of money, good AF, good noise killing, and they can produce sensor by them selves.

Sony has money too. they have Minolta's technology and Zeiss's lens. They are top of the sensor maker.

what about Pentax? Pentax don't have money, Hoya is not big company.
Pentax has bad AF, bad image processing.
Pentax's new full frame body? I think it will revival of Contax NDigital.

I'll bet to 645D. Pentax has many 645 AF lenses.
If it produces in cheap prices, Canon/Nikon/Sony, they are deadman.
1ds mark3? D3? a900? they are just 'small camera', 135 vs 645.
I think 645 digital market is blue ocean.

I will see Pentax in next PMA2008.
Next model MUST not use Sony sensor.
Or Pentax will revive Olympus's suffer by Sony.

is sensor Sony or Samsung? Foveon? etc?
is body has upgraded AF sensor?
is image processing upgraded?
.
.
.

Pentax, to be or not to be, next year PMA is the key.

Yes, I think you are very much right. Pentax needs to get that 645D out to market soon. It's a high-margin product, and could generate funds for the rest of the camera & lens business. Pentax also needs the added status that a Pro product would deliver. I would not feel very confident if Pentax takes the route of best bang for the buck for all its products, and it could surf on the blue ocean of 645D:s for a long time to come.

Wow, pretty nice. Thank you for doing this.

2004 seems to be a year to mourn. All those lenses ending production and so few new lenses taking their place.

Thank you

"Tag" is just a way for us to bookmark this thread - it will then show up in our "My Threads" list. Many of us are interested in getting an updated version of your chart if you make one, and we expect that you will post it in this thread.
