Anyone tried out the D3 with 28-70 already?

Hi,

I want to use the D3 in combination with the 28-70 AFS, anyone tried out this combination already? Any remarks by means of vignetting or other things?
Thanks in advance,

Michel

There have been a few comments that the 28-70 is fine. I can't point to any, though.

Just curious why you would think there might possibly be an issue with the D3 and AF-S 28-70. Eh? I got my AF-S back 1999 or 2000 and with thousands of others, have used it for years as a FF film lens.

Why would you think/worry there would be vignetting or other issues with this lens? What did I miss?

Probably because the unique lenses on the D3's photosites are creating issues with other lenses, notably older primes. Search around for threads that mention Bjorn's preliminary comments.

exactly

Thank you all,

I use this lens since last spring on a D200. I'm happy with it, I was wondering if the image quality shortages of this lens (flare) might be not the only thing in relation to the new 24-70 on a D3.

I found a "portrait" someone took using the D3 and 28-70 here - http://www.nikoncafe.com/vforums/showthread.php?t=139382

Oops. The guy who took the picture now says he made a mistake and it was actually taken with the 70-200.

It looks like these were taken with his 28-70, if you compare the meta data of the pics with his list of lenses.

Yes, but haven't really analyzed vignetting. No noticable vignetting in mine in night

Yes. Focus is super fast, accurate, and tack sharp.

No comments on vignetting yet as I've only shot a few photos in the day (mostly at night with dark surroundings).

Noise control is phenomenal, ISO 6400 is totally useful for photojournalism type snapshots at night - I hardly feel like I need my 28mm f1.4 anymore...

My 24-70 is FAR superior to my 17-55 - faster, sharper etc. Again, no comment on vignetting except to say that I haven't noticed any, for as much as that helps answer your question...

Re: Anyone tried out the D3 with 28-70 already?

I got my D3 and 24-70 on Friday, tried it out for a few shots on Saturday. First impression, the pictures are from a phase one 25 MF back. 24-70 has only a minimum of vignetting but absolut perfect sharpness. For me, the D3 is a revolution, i have never seen so clear shadows from a digital camera and so noiseless pictures. The camera is all over 4 Steps better than my D2X. Only the buffer capacity is a littlle bit small (18Raw), my be faster cards an new firmware in future will change it.

Greetings Uwe

Hello Michel,

I received my D3's yesterday... and checked it right away with my favorite lens, the 28-70 AFS

In response to your query, the lens is perfect, fast, no vignetting and blances great on the camera!

I don't see why I need any other lenses to the ones I already have.. AFS 17-35 and AFS 70-200

Ciao
Martino

Cool, that's exactly my setup (except I don't have the D3 yet, but soon ...)
