Re: Maxxum 7D Repair Hints

simple answer: you can't.
I think the only way you could find the small gears needed to do the fix is buying a used 7D that is allready fixed, therefore there would be no need to fix yours.

It's just some glass, some silicon and magnesium. It isn't a religion.

a picture is worth a thousand words

Tis with the back removed, but you don't need to remove the display. notice the metal tab on the right, that is your hard resets

If you take off the back ,you will see a flap of metal . this is your reset button . With the battery out and the switch on push and hold it for 30 seconds. This will do a total reset on your camera. you only need to take off the back to achieve this. Good luck and a Disclaimer do it at your own risk to your health and to your camera's health. ps watch out for that big capacitor, you need to discharge it by way of a 300k ohm resistor. Having said that if you only go in from the back it should NOT be an issue. Again DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.

What about creating the required gears using a 3D printer?

I guess if you know this kind of stuff and manage to replicate exactly the tiny gear the repair could be possible.

Would it be possible to print such a small item with any degree of precision ?

( I'm not to well up on 3d printing , other than a general awareness !)

DLP and, even more so, laser SLA, printers can do quite high precision. I can print 1mm helicoid threads on my AnyCubic Mono.

Here's a small part I printed for a Kodak DCS SLR/n (original, broken, part on the right):

I think I made that tab at the bottom a bit too long, but it works fine.
