Hi all,
I just had a wonderful opportunity to speak to Michael Corrado Senior Product Manager SLR System Products at tonights NWPLI meeting. (

)
Living only minutes from Melville, Nikons head courters has it's benefits!
First let me say that he gave a wonderful presentation on the new D3 and D300 along with all of the new lenses. Not only is he a great photographer, but he seemed like a really nice guy! He showed us this image from the Bronx Zoo printed at least 20 by 30 at ISO 1600 from the D3 and I was floored by it's sharpness and lack of noise!Here is a link to the original...just put a .jpg at the end of the link.

He also showed us the cover of a horse racing magazine and it was his shot...D3 at ISO 2500 and let me tell you, it looked stunning! He had a bunch of shots in that magazine and most were high ISO!
When asked why was the firmware slow to be finished on the D300, he said that they were so unhappy with images on Japans Nikon D3 web site, they felt it was important to finish the D3 and get images posted to show what the camera can do. When asked when we can expect some high ISO D300 images, his replay was about 2 more weeks. That tells me they are still tweaking!
We got to play with all the gear (Still not allowed to put our cards in!) and talk with other Nikon reps. They are giddy with excitement on this new stuff and they say it feels great to be one up on Canon for a change... When I said I went to the Photo Expo and saw the crowds in the Nikon booth and the lack of people in the Canon booth, one rep said yes it was nice but the tables were turned 180 degrease only a few years ago. It's just our turn now...
