Dimage 7 Won't Turn On Problem

I have sent my Dimage 7 back for repairs twice and will now have to for a third time because it fails to turn on. Minolta just sends a replacement camera and has not commented on what the problem is.

Has any one encountered the problem? It does not seem to be a power problem in that different sets of fully charged batteries were used as well as the AC adapter yet still the device will not operate. I ran about 1000 pix before the first failure, 5 or 10 from the first replacement and about the same from the third replacement before failure.

My only guess is that it may be RF as I am occasionally in areas with high RF. But the camera does not fail in the area of high RF. The camera works for a while then when it times out, it refuses to turn back on again.

I would avoid this camera completely until it is determined what is causing this problem. If it is RF then there is a serious design flaw which will manefest in failed units once they pass into a high RF area.

If any one has experienced a similar problem, please let me know. Minolta says they have seen this problem before. Right now the camera is a liability.--Paul

Re: Dimage 7 Won't Turn On Problem

I had similar problem with the D7 I bought. I ended up returning it to the place where I bought it from(Cameraworld). 2 People from Cameraworld's service and returns department told me that they've seen very high numbers of Minolta digital camera problems and suggested that I choose a different brand of digital camera instead of getting a replacement D7. The one I had made humming sound when I tried to turn it on and nothing would work. I've read a couple other people on this forum having the same problem before(one with a S304 and another with a D5 I believe).

How high is the RF in this area?

Do you know if other digital cameras are less affected? How high is the RF in this particular area? Maybe more RF shielding is needed in the D7 or would it be needed in all digital cameras?

Re: Dimage 7 Won't Turn On Problem

Glad I saw your post. I bought a Minolta maximm 5000i used with a similar problem. It does not turn on. Cleaning the battery terminals, putting in a new battery, does not fix the problem. No YouTube videos or troubleshooting online give a fix. I’m sorry what happened to your experience with a Minolta camera but you save me a lot of time trying to fix this camera. Granted I only paid $15 with free shipping For this camera, i’ve I Purchased untested as his cameras in the past, and most of them worked or I got them to work but this one is a lost cause. I already have another Minolta film camera a maxim 450 that works fine. And other cameras and use cameras in my collection. So it’s off to the recycler for this camera thanks again for not letting me waste my time Trying to fix this camera.
