Minolta 5600HS on A200, will it work?

I have an A200 and a 2500D flash combo. I want something with swivel head so that I can still bounce off the ceiling even when I shoot in portrait orientation. There is a post in our local ebay for a Minolta HS5600 at a very good price. I was wondering if this will work with the A200? The reason I asked is that its not the 5600-D model for digital cameras. But since my cam is not a sophisticated dSLR, I am hoping this flash will work also.

Any experiences with this set-up anyone?

This question comes up from time to time. There was only one "5600" model from Minolta, the Program Flash 5600HS(D). This model will work with the Dimage A200.

This flash is typically not in the bargin bin, so make sure it is not really the older 5400HS which does not support pre-flash TTL and will not work in program mode with digital camera models.

My bad... I just checked right now and its the 5400HS they were selling and not the 5600HS-D. Anyway, thanks for the tech answer. At least, now I know.

Owners of Sony or Minolta type flash guns who- The flash MUST be attached to the camera and both turned on in the funcion button on the camera it should be on "Wireless mode" you will then be able to use wireless setting on the flash gun 1/1 power setting is default but can be set to 1/2 for less power the W/L symbol will show but the most important thing the Flashgun will emit a red blinking from the AF sensors this will mean that the wireless function is working and ready to fire wirelessly from the camera.

Two Minolta Flash Gun that DO work fully with Sony DSLRS with the old Minolta Hotshoe are as follows

Minota 3500 HS-D

Minolta 5600 HS-D

Unless you have The D prefix no other Minolta Flashgun will work in full TTl Mode

The above two flashguns came out basically for very late  Film then Digital KonicaMinolta DSLRs , basically the flashguns above were also later marked as Sony  AS long as your Sony DSLR has a a Minolta type hot shoe both Minlta HS-D will fully co-operate with your DSLR also wirelessly follow the instructions the Flash operaring manual if you dont have a manual they can be downloaded

Many people have not attached the flashgun to sync the settings of the camera to operate wieless control and thought the flash did not work in wireless mode.

The O.P asked this 15 years ago , and was last seen here 7 years ago .

I think they've either figured it out or moved on !

True, but it is still good information to have.  Someone out there into old cameras might find the information very helpful!

Mentioning wireless in this context is confusing, as, on newer cameras, these flashes cannot act as wireless triggers. On a newer Sony you can use a newer Sony flash as a trigger to 5600HS(D) and 3600HS(D).

For something like a KM7D or Maxxum/Dynax 7, you should use the built-in flash as the trigger.

But, yes, in the hotshoe, or on the ADP-MAA adapter (for MI shoes) these flashes are fully functional with anything from late Minolta through latest Sony.
