It's back - D40 + 18-135mm for $569.99 @ Amazon

Free shipping also. I am one of those who tried to order it last time and had my order cancelled the next day due to a "pricing error". Kinda annoyed, as I have since ordered the standard D40 + 18-55mm kit and would have certainly preferred to spend $30 more for the 18-135mm.

Those who were waiting to jump in, go ahead!

I missed out on this the first time and just bought a D40 last week. I got a D40 and the 18-70 for $530 so that was a good deal but I wouldn't mind having the 18-135.

I've been monitoring the price of the D40 for a long time and you can't beat this price. Just place my order for it. Let's see if it goes through.

I'm seriously contemplating returning the standard kit and paying the extra $35 for the 18-135mm lens... it's a hassle, but I was pretty annoyed when they canceled it the last time and there's the principle of it all.

I think it's worth the trouble. I was one of the lucky ones the first time around and I can tell you that the 18-135 is a very nice match with the D40 body. It is light enough and copact enough that it doesn't overwhelm the D40's small body and it's a very versatile setup for day to day photography.

Took the plunge, figure it was worth it for the better lens -- I can already tell that 55mm at the long end feels limiting, even as a walk-around lens.

Spoke to customer service rep @ Amazon and they worked everything out, placed the new order, will return the old one.

So far (less than 24 hrs) the order hasn't been canceled yet!! (Fingers crossed)

D40 w/ 18-135

OMG I just got a normal kit for $525, it's being shipped to me now as I type this, gonna receive it on Tuesday. If I sell it does the warranty transfer to the buyer?

This is a much better deal.

Can you get a refund? If you refuse delivery they will just send it back to the seller.

I can get a refund -10%. They have a 10% restocking policy. I ordered from BeachCamera.com. I actually asked for a replacement because the unit had a dead pixel on the LCD.

EDIT: Never mind, I've decided to keep the 18-55mm being shipped to me since I already have the 52mm UV/polarizers for it. And besides I'm just starting out to learn photography.

Re: It's back - D40 + 18-135mm for $569.99 @ Amazon

I just received an email with tracking number telling me that mine has shipped. Also, the D40 + 18-135 mm lens is still being listed for $569.99 on Amazon after 2 or so days. Looks more and more like a price reduction by Amazon.

So, Amazon has the D40 + 18-55 mm lens for $533.28 and the D40 + 18-135 mm lens for $569.99. Doesn't make sense, especially because they have the 18-135 mm lens listed for $299.95.

I just ordered one as well - looks like they are out of stock now though, and the price is up to $695 being sold through Cameta Camera instead of directly through Amazon.

I'm a beginner photographer - this will be my first SLR/DSLR, so am taking everyone's word that this is a good deal!

Re: D40 w/ 18-135

Hi,

I have the D40 and 18-135 combo, and have handled the D40 with 18-55. The weight difference is about 5 ounces (8 oz. vs. 13 oz.) but the difference feels much greater. The D40 feels great with the 18-55 - incredibly light and well balanced. Not that the 18-135 is unwieldy or bulky (on the contrary it's very light and compact for its range).

That being said, I wouldn't trade the 18-135 for the 18-55. Having one lens cover such a great focal length is so convenient, and the 18-135 is very sharp.

Thanks!!

Thats what I was worrying about as I'm small and weakish...so I might be better off with the 18-55 and 55-200 combo, eventhough I do like the idear of one lens...

Hi, sorry for the 2-day delay in response!

There is no phone # listed, they use an automated customer service phone calling system so they actually call you.

You have to click on "Help" or "Customer Service" and there's a link to contact them. If you choose the "contact by phone" option, a box pops up asking for a phone # to call you and when to call (i.e. NOW or at a specified time). Then, your phone rings and you sit on hold for a couple of minutes till a rep picks up to talk to you.

Normally, Amazon has a restocking fee for open items, but I gave the rep a bit of fuss for the fact that I had ALREADY ordered this item before, had the order canceled because of a "price error", and then ordered the other D40 kit only to have the one I really wanted (D40 + 18-135) suddenly reappear at the "error" price. Didn't seem fair for me to pay extra for all that hassle, and the rep was very nice and worked it out fairly well.

As an UPDATE: Got a "shipping soon" notice so hopefully (fingers crossed) I'll actually get it this time! Been playing around with the D40 + 18-55 for now, enjoying learning on my first DSLR. Can't wait to get that extra reach though....

What a fantastic deal!

I just placed an order and it's supposed to be in stock on September 18th. I hope that it's not a mistake and Amazon ships my D40 next week instead of canceling my order.
