40D, A700 & D300 side by side

...
After a rough Photoshoping, there they are ( ajusted to scale ):

I guess next I'll make a spec comparison table as soon as the A700's is available.

Oh noes!

I'm a bit irritated that the new Sony doesn't have the words 'Nikon' or 'Canon' written on them.

Nikons always have a certain elegance to their design. They are a rare combination of aesthetics and proper function, and that makes a beautiful camera. They pay attention to the finest detail, like the slightly angling of the control dials for better ergonomics. Something reviews will rareley mention but in the real world make them a more usable camera than most.

Thanks for doing this!

I've always wondered how you guys do this ... what did you use for scale?

Are my eyes deceiving me?

Does the 40D really only have 1 control dial? I know they use the * button....but are they getting away with that? Wasn't the a100 persecuted for only having 1 control dial? I certainly prefer 2, if only to have the choice of what feels more natural to me.

...because they're Canon.

I think it's a great cam. Now that I saw most of the specs, I can't stop think about when Phil's review will be coming!

The other control dial is the wheel on the back. I don't really like it, hard to reach.

No, the Canon also has that big, beautiful control wheel on the back. I have the Canon 30D and it works wonderfully.

The Nikon would be laughed out of this forum for having "no knobs"

A700 looks great...

Trolling here ;P I just saw the write up... Sony is marching into the big dog territory and their lens line up is coming up too... ergonomics wise the D300 reigns supreme. The price of the unit will reflect its spec dominance. I always watch what Sony does because they make CMOS sensor in most of the Nikons. It'll be interesting to see what Sony puts out on the professional realm. It's D300 for me because of my investments but this thing looks pretty darn good for only a second camera. Hooraaay for you guys and gals... now...

Without seeing the all 3 side by side, I didn't realize how beautiful is the Nikon and Canon......

Re: A700 looks great...

I'm trying to understand how the D300 ergonomics "reign supreme" when the WB, ISO etc buttons are on the top left of the camera? It looks to me like the a700 will be the easiest to adjust with the hands in a stationary position??
