D300 - up to ISO 12800 ( Hi2) ?

I read this the 1st time by someone attending IFA in Berlin (it was told during th product presentation), now there is a video in italian were some Nikon representatives refer amongst other things, that the D300 will pull 2 stops over 3200 ( does a quick mental calculations), up to 12800.

Re: D300 - up to ISO 12800 ( Hi2) ?

According to Nikon´s specs (see their several homepages for reference) there is a Lo-1 (=ISO100) and a Hi-1 (=ISO6400) but no Hi-2 unfortunately.

I undersdand a bit Italian but not everything !...

So first they speak about the D3.

As everyone knows it will be a full frame , but what I didnt understand is the possibility to shoot also in 5/4 , (automatic resising ?)

They present both cameras as a professional cameras, aslo D300.

The D3 has a very usefull AF function that follows a pre determinated color (as rose for exemple if a runner wears a rose short)
a lot of options via the Card slots :

-possibility to shoot on 1 card the jpegs and on the other the raws at the same time.

-other one : if 1 card is full, it continues to record the following sequence on the other card .
-can copy via D3 the photos from 1 card to the other card. (or stick)

  • 40% more battery.

  • can control 5 D3 cameras via a computer at the same time

D300 : the same in small size :

  • 51 AF points

  • same color system

  • same AF options

  • Iso from 200-to- 3200 + 2 boost stops up to 12'ooo asa.

  • rapidity of commands is imporved on the back buttons.

  • 8 frames / second (12 bits mode only I think)

  • improved tropiclisation

ps : I really think D300 will be my first Dslr camera , but can anyone tell me if , for the fun, my old 1.4 50mm (no automatic at all) will fit on it ?
I also wait for image samples.

Yes, you've seen basiclly what i've been seeing too so far.

But, the fact is that ISO 12800 was indeed referred by Nikon representatives, and apparently at IFA too, which is strange since the so far released specs only mention Hi1 (6400)...

So, we'll have to see if the Hi2 (12800) is confirmed, or if the Nikon guys are just having a bit too much red wine at lunch...

Of course your old lenses will work just fine. It's a Nikon, not a Canon!

Please, someone, correct me if i am wrong but as long as it was made after 1977 i think the 50mm f1.4 should work.

that's the point !

in fact I dont know when the lens was exactly build but it fits on a nikon-F , the black one, it is a very good lens but maybe a bit too old. (it was from my girfriend's grand-father!)

Check here

This is a web site where you can easily figure out what type of mount etc you have on that lens.

Check by serial number, focal length & f-stop

Hope it'll help you

Re: D300 - up to ISO 12800 ( Hi2) ?

I saw the same thing listed in some thread last week. But as noted elsewhere here all the stated specs by Nikon, DPReview, etc, etc, list the specs as only having Hi-1.

Of course there will be the question of whether 12800 is actually usable. But if you have to get the shot and that's all the options you have, well, why not? I used ISO 3200 on the D100 all the time. Never used 6400, but it was there if I needed it.

Re: D300 - up to ISO 12800 ( Hi2) ?

The man speaking is Stefano BARBERO "Nikon Professional Service Italia" representative, and he says that is possible with the D300 to go 2 stops over 3200 ISO till "let me calculate 6400, 12000 and and..."
That my translation from italian, my mother tongue.

I pre-orderd D300 here in Milano, ITALY on August 31, and I'm the second in the row.

Re: Nikon USA

We've all read that since the beginning....but something different is being stated by Nikon reps, it's not a rumour.

Nikon USA, and ...

... the D300 brochure says 1-stop over 3200:

http://chsv.nikonimaging.com/global/products/digitalcamera/slr/d300/pdf/d300_2p.pdf

We'll get to the bottom of this soon.

Re: Nikon USA, and ...

Very true....probably it will be what will come out, but nonetheless, the statement by some Nikon reps is more recent than the brochures...and those aren't yet on any stores i've seen and who knows if it's not a last minute change...

We've been kept in the dark so far regarding D300 "leaks", so, who knows...

Re: D300 - up to ISO 12800 ( Hi2) ?

I can confirm it (I'm italian)..

He says on the D300 iso up to 12800 (using 1/3 stop interval). Also a LOW ISO 100.

Re: D300 - up to ISO 12800 ( Hi2) ?

I've seen the brochures, the videos, but all is pre-production so far so we can't know for sure if it will end up with Hi2 or no.

Since it's more of a software / firmware issue than hardware, it's a possibility, specially after being stated by Nikon representatives who should be more into things than any of us here reading brochures, watching videos or leaked photos.

It would be nice to have it, but it won't be a decisive factor to get one.
