200 F2 VR A few candids !

You may ask yourself how do you take candids with the unassuming 200 F2? I don't have an answer. The D40, as in this case, attached to the 200 f2 doesn't make it any less obvious.

Why are they all now wearing designer glasses?

Hem, Pierre...

if I offer myself as the lens truck... would you present me to those girls, wherever they live???

Great shots... but how far were you from them? The skin tone is really unbelievable, especially the first shot

ps

Taking CANDIDS with such, HUGE, lens? Those sunglasses are glasses for blind people, I guess... It's unbelievable how they were unaware of you...

Once again, really stunning shots. Congratulations

Thanks for your positive feedback and for being willing to sacrifice yourself to be a lens truck. These young ladies reside in the city of Toronto. A tip for this combo, make sure you hold the lens and not the camera

Hi Pierre.

Really beautifully rendered candids.

I'm a little surprised that some folks think a big lens can't be used well for candids.
I sometimes use my 200-400VR for them (but I wish I had a 200VR!):
Nikon D2h ,Nikkor 200-400mm f/4G ED-IF AF-S VR
1/1250s f/4.0 at 400.0mm iso400

I always love seeing your wonderful demonstations of what a terrific lens can do in skilled hands, but it's costing me!

Best Regards,
RB

Thanks RB ! I don't recall making you buy the 200-400 vr . Nice shot. I see she also wears designer glasses.

Yeah, I don't think you need to be a Christian right-winger to note that "candids", especially on this board, often involve an unseemly level of voyeurism.

Nice shots, nevertheless. I want that lens.

Hey Pierre,

nice captures. I was going to guess wakestock, maybe harbour front, but not the Docks. But then again, Toronto is full of lovely ladies no matter where u go.

Are you going to go to Ontario Place for the Light Festival? Did u post pics from last year? (I recall someone did)

To answer your designer sunglasses question: my theoretical response; hot women hot glasses. Say no more, wink wink nudge nudge.

Regards

Well you're twice right on the money ! These photos were taken @ Wavestock. As far as the Chinese Lantern Festival here is the gallery I posted last year taken with the Nik. 28mm 1.4

voyeurism

I agree that a lot of the candids and street shots posted on this forum in particular are a bit on the voyeuristic side...especially those with longer telephotos.

However...perhaps it's only obvious in that other types of street shots aren't considered interesting to users here or irrepresentative of lens qualities (of course that's a long argument in itself)...

Re: voyeurism

Why is it that if the subject that is taken by a telephoto lens happens to be wholesome and lovely and her photo is taken in public with good lighting, composition, in good taste and in a flattering way that this offends some people.

If I had shown this example, no one would have commented in the same degree about voyeurism.

Pierre, my old friend!

I see you still like to photograph the girls...I am glad. It makes for a smile on my face when I see your images, be they ships at the dock or girls on the street, they are all well exposed and well composed. I can't understand how anyone would see this as voyeurism.

Well, I have purchased a new body. When I say new, I mean old, I jumped on a D1H. The battery life is absolute rubbish, but the images show promise. It will do for a while until the new Nikon has been released. Could be anywhere form a few weeks to a year or so, I can wait. I just needed accurate focusing, fast shutter, high ISO and reasonably clean jpegs straight out of the box. You had a D1 something a while back. Do you still have it or have you flogged it off and purchased something else?
