Re: *WARNING* Hunter & the Hunted

Very interesting shots. Black-crowned Night-Herons are known for this type of behavior and not just on ducks:

It was pretty gut-wrenching to watch the fate of this Great Egret chick this past spring from the time it fell out of its nest to the time it went down the hatch of the heron.

That second picture of yours with the helpless duckling being carried away to be devoured is pretty gut wrenching as well. Such is life for a young bird, it is amazing that any survive at all.

Very nice work.

Re: *WARNING* Hunter & the Hunted

By the way, I checked your gallery and saw a lot of familiar birds and then when I looked at your profile I see you are also from Houston.

Keep up the good work, maybe I will see you around some time!

Very nice captures...

Their taste for other birds starts out at a young age. This one I took quite a while a go & everyone at the rookery that day was stunned that this little one is already doing this behavior. Nature is Nature, I guess.

What can I say but to add my voice to the chorus of praise. A stunning series by a great photographer. I tip my hat to you.

Only down side to it all is that once again you have shown me up for the rank talentless amateur I am. It was ok a short time ago as I could blame my crummy 'starter' camera for my poor results, and then you go and do this! LOL.

Congrats again Tech.

Re: *WARNING* Hunter & the Hunted

Some of the best nature shots I've seen on this forum. You are truly talented and have an eye for ACTION! These shots are truly inspiring to me and I appreciate your work very much. VERY nice to hear the D40 is treating you so well.

The 70-300VR is on my list! I have a D80 and would tend to agree with you on having to work harder on non-pro glass. Thanks again and congratulations!

Had to wait till I got home to view these, my work server blocks
flickr and a few other sites. Stunning shots and I agree with others
that you should enter the last two in particular in competitions.

As to the other comments in the thread, my wife and daughters (12 &
9) all understood that nature can be cruel at times and that the pics
were amazing, though they did have a preference for the last

The same with my wife and daughter

Re: *WARNING* Hunter & the Hunted

Despite being over a year old, that just put a sad ending to my night!!!!!! You see a mom and her chicks walking around the lake and you don't think of predators, but I guess they are out there in many forms. Hopefully mom was on her toes with the others.
