Once again you show off a profound skill.

That is a stunning set of photos and I think anyone viewing them would be hard pressed not to feel some sort of an emotional response.

There is something to be said for being in the right place at the right time, but I don't think the vast majority of people would have the presence of mind, or the talent and skills, to capture this set of photos even as they watched this drama unfold in front of them.

It is one thing to go out and carefully setup, test the light, make sure the sun in the right position, check all of the camera settings, and then wait for a bird, insect, whatever to come within range and then snap a carefully planned for photo. It is something altogether different to happen upon one of life-and-death's dramas and come away with a set of pictures like these - awesome.

The little duck seems a bit large for that bird too eat.... maybe the bird just wanted to have a son.

Very, very good. Some of the best around here for a long time.

You can most surely sell those for a pretty buck.

ps: any chance of posting a 100% crop of one of them at 300mm; I am busy evaluating my 70-300, with which I am not totally happy.

Anyway, well done.

Was this in a park or where.... ?

Amazing shots. Funny how everyone knocks the D40 for only having 3 AF points and saying how BIF would be to hard to capture with it. Seems like you did a fine job to me! I guess it really is "all up to the photographer". That 70-300mm is a heck of a lens too.

Don't let anyone fool you about the D40 and what it can do. So far after 2 days with it I don't know that I will take my D80 out for a while now. I will give it some good in flight tests here soon and post them. This camera may very well become my favorite for too many reasons to even list.

  1. 3 is absolute perfection, as has been said, that must be an extremely saleable image. Fantastic skills and also some luck to have the duckling facing you.

Super series!

It would be worth going back and getting the color of the second photo to match the others. The night heron is a bit blue in #2.

Photos 2 & 3 are both prize winners. Do submit them to contests. If you see a contest for a series submit the whole.

*Stunning!!*

Wow! I was wondering how often you could come across such a moment and capture it. I think you had the right mindset to capture the whole drama through the viewfinder rather than just watching it.

  1. 2,#3 are the best story-telling shots and I can even tell that in the #3,the chick's still alive!

Voted!
