Mosquito sucking my blood (macros)!

I noticed the mozzies were out this evening so got my FZ50 ready with raynox 250 attached and sat down on the porch. Took only a minute and the first one landed on my finger and dug in:

I only managed to fire away those two shots before the belly visibly started expanding

It then got so big that tummy liquid had to be pushed out to make room for the blood and by miracle I captured one droplet shooting out:

And then it pulls out (note also the belly is now so transparent you can see the intestines:

What we suffer for the great shots, eh? I am not looking forward to the itching tomorrow

Outstanding series, ngari!!!!!!!
That shot with the drop is amazing. You can see the intestines on that one too.

As I told you, this is top in my wish-to-take list!

Thanks,
L.

Re: Mosquito sucking my blood (macros)!

The first three shots are not top notch as goes IQ (the originals were quite off focus and needed hard sharpening at loss of IQ in general), but I then had more time to get it right as it started sucking and the last two were pretty spot on, I think. The one with the shooting droplet is pure luck. I had one more where the ddroplet was further back and completely out of focus. I took a total of 10 shots before it took off so it was quite a quick ordeal (but the itching will last considerably longer I'm afraid)

These are some of the most interesting shots I have ever seen, and I am glad I did not have to volunteer my arm. I think you could sell the last three shots as text book photos they are that well done.

Ghastly!!

Egad, ngari, what a sacrifice for science. Let's hope you didn't catch anything...'cept the 'skeeter, I hope...where's the shot of your palm smacking down on the little b*stard, eh? Blood squirting out everywhere...Was he actually able to even lift off with that bloody cargo? Great work!

Hi Ngari,

Simply incredible. Taking great macro shots, one-handed, focused on the other hand under attack from a bug? That is creativity, skill, diligence, and patience all wrapped up together. The shot of the mosquito expelling fluid is utterly amazing.

Those are great - but - I do hope you don't get interested in taking pictures of rattlesnakes or black widow spiders!

Hi Ngari,

These photos are brilliantly disgusting! You have proven yourself not only a fine photographer, but a real warrior for the cause as well. Regards, Ken.

Re: Mosquito sucking my blood (macros)!

Those are some of the coolest shots I've seen in a long time ngari - very nicely done. I think those are worth seeing if you can get them published somewhere.
