Two new cameras - August announcement

One pro one semi-pro.

It's been confirmed by multiple sources of mine, obviously I can't reveal the sources.

And this picture may have been posted here, if so I apologize. The Japanese wording means "Taking order for the Nikon D200 replacement announced in Fall", and it's said the poster is hang in one of the large Tokyo camera stores in Ginza.

Prosumer DSLR?

I am a little bit puzzled by this mid-range prosumer model.

Why?

The D200 seems to be competitive enough in the market with no serious competition from others.

Canon has been lazy by not stepping up in this segment until now, or as rumor has it the upcoming 40D. The only other potential serious competition would be the Sony A-10.

Perhaps Sony is really the reason: again as rumor speculating the upcoming alpha-10 having a 12mp sensor (CMOS?) Nikon may also have access to the same sensor. Thus a little bit more tweaking to the existing D200 with the new sensor, we have a new mid-range DSLR, hopefully selling at similar price range of the D200.

In 30 days we will know.

Maybe Nikon has learned a lesson from the D100 - it took way to long for the D200 to replace it and the gap between the D70 to D100 was way to small to make the price difference worthwhile for the user.

I believe the biggest competition to the D200 doesn't come from non-F-mount cameras, it's more likely to be the D80 and the Fuji...

I've heard quite a few photojournalists debating getting the D80 instead of the D200 - the only thing that put them of were those SD-cards...

Let's hope Nikon doesn't wait till IFA at the end of August, I'm really curious!

Not exactly

The sign says in fact "to go on sales in Fall".

So there will be nothing tomorrow? The dreaded July 25th announcement is vapourware?

Sounds to me as if we have got good quality anorak fodder in spades. Yum yum. Roll on August ...

Re: Two new cameras - August announcement

I can confirm that the sign says 'Released in the Fall 2007' so an 'announcement' on the 25th July is still not completely off the cards.

I'm sure we can wait just a little longer.

my sources say

That the consumer model will be delivered this Autumn.
That it is absolutely no FF.
That the Professional model will be delivered from end of this year
That is not true FF

I'm just the messenger

Re: Two new cameras - August announcement

It means that the successor of D200 will be marketed in Fall 2007 - if and only if this photo is not a fake. So from now to this Fall, we should be ready to hear news announceent from Nikon about this " successor of D200". It doen not mention any thing else about any other camera model.

On the other hand, how can it be a fake poster?

"sales in fall"

I can barely read Japanese so I was guess. The correct meaning is indeed "sales in fall".

Anyone in Tokyo? Please confirm this shop and the poster.

There are also rumors about D200 is no longer in shop or in short supply, along with AF-S VR 70-200/2.8G. I am unable to confirm this shortage yet.
