Epson could not tell ne positively that the P3000 would accept and display images from the LC1, though they said it would at least store them as would any hard drive. I've searched this forum for info to no avail. Have any of you had a positive experience with this combination?

A friend asked me that the other day - I Read the Fine Manuals and made a wild guess that it would not recognize the RAW files. But, see not reason why this would be a deal breaker - since it will display the "companion" JPG. Now, would I want the thing - that would be a whole different question.

Thanks, Peg, that answers the question I needed to pose before I could finally get onto the one you ask.

The reason I'm exploring the p3000 is simple: I want to be able to go on vacation with everything in carry on baggage only. The P3000 looke dsmall enough to fit, there's a special rebate going on and my wife would have a nicer vacation if I didn't take a full fledged laptop along!

It sounds as if you've had a negative experience with it, though, and all comments pro and con will be gratefully considered.

I just think that the Wolverine product line is cheaper. It does support the Panasonic DMC-FZ30, DMC-LX1, DMZ-FZ50 Raw formats - an outside chance that it would support LC1 as well.

Before you settle on anything - check the size of the whole package - ie, battery charger and any required cables. No computer is definitely a good idea for a vacation with family members.

If you shoot lots and shoot RAW - you might want to look a something that holds more than 40 GIG. If you don't shoot RAW - you might want to look into just getting a fist full of decent SD cards and just use that. Forget about an external solution. And, if you are going to Europe, most of Asia, NZ etc - you can always pick up another couple if you miscalculate. I know that I shoot max 2 gigs per day - JPGS. And, I know that my battery will last about 1 gig worth of photos. So, if I head out every day with 2 batteries and 2 2gig cards - I'll be aces.

In our family the motto is "She who travels lightest travels best".

I like your motto, Peg!

I do use RAW settings in the LC1, however, so simply buying more SD cards is not the ideal solution for me. What that solution will turn out to be is not yet clear, however.

(That said, I AM planning on buying cards from Calumet tomorrow as I shoot mostly jpegs in my Ricoh GRD. Had you heard that Calumet's offering a 2 for 1 sale on Sandisk Ultra II SD and CF cards? It's a great deal but, if youre interested, best move quickly; the sale ends Friday, August 2.)

Thanks again,

Tom
