11 Unaltered Full Size SD850IS Images

I just received my new SD850IS camera yesterday and today I took a few test shots to check it out. So far, I'm pretty impressed with this little camera. I'll hold off giving any in-depth reviews until I've had more time to use it, but the initial impressions I have are positive. I'll link some photo's here and then have a link to the original photo that is just the way it came out of the camera, no alerations at all. Not really good shooting material, but I know there are quite a few that are interested in this camera but haven't seen any full size photos in everyday use so I thought I'd take a few and put them up for them to see and evaluate.

( Note: To see full EXIF info, you can right click on the original image link and save to your computer and view file info or you can go to http://ragtop.smugmug.com/gallery/3002322 and view the exif info there.)

ISO Test: (I didn't do an ISO 200, 100, or 80 on this test, they are all pretty noise free in my opinion)

SD850IS is this the 950 IS in europe?

just wanted to check this is the model that canon have just released. the different model numbers make it too confusing.

If this is the new model thank you for posting and the pictures look good to me.

Yes, this is the IXUS 950 IS in the European market. I should've added that in my original post.

I have just bought the 950IS and like it very much. It surprises me how much final detail is captured and the punch of the photos is easily enhanced with a little pp.

These images are quite impressive for such a compact camera. The exposures are kept under control and there is alot of fine detail. I think this camera is going to be a winner.

Nick,

That is what impresses me with this little camera. The size and the fact that you can keep it with you all the time, and the detail and exposures from the camera. Simply amazing in my opinion. I'm very happy with it so far.

Thanks!

JEWatts,

Thank you for these photos. I think from your post, and from another who has posted full size images, what the camera is capable of. It looks pretty darn good to me.

One thing that gives me pause, though, is in the swingset picture. If you look at the picture fullscreen (not 100%, but full screen) the swingset and canopy look out of focus. Do you guys think this was a focusing error with the camera, or do you think the focal point is much futher behind on the trees? Something about the focus in that shot just doesn't look quite right to me. I've seen similiar things with the SD800 that I was using, and I'm wondering if it is a Digic III thing? Like maybe it is focusing too fast for its own good?

Anyway, just wondering what you all though. The pictures still look great though.

Thanks for your time and effort JEWatts!

Re: Thanks!

Jim, I hadn't noticed that particular photo as I posted it for the high contrast and colors. It's my neighbor's enclosure and I was shooting it from my back deck, which looks down on this area. After looking at that photo again, I see what you are talking about and I think it was actually my error, not focusing on the subject. I stepped out on my deck and took another shot of that, this time making sure I focused on the swingset and after holding down the shutter button half way, re-composed the photo. I think this might be a little bit better. Here's the new picture:

Jim as one of the first people to truly test this camera, what can you tell us about the battery life? How many average pictures have you gotten per charge?

OP JEWatts Regular Member • Posts: 131
Re: Battery Results

Well, when I got my camera, I charged the battery for about 2 hours until fully charged. Since then, I've only had to charge it 1 time. I'm up to picture count 573 with it right now, and I noticed the first "low battery" warning come on at 328 pictures. Again, not really enough to tell for sure or to get an average yet, but so far, I'm getting over 300 photos per charge.
