Wow!!!

That's one impressive camera! It looks like it's an attached zoom lens though.

Okay, it really was funny.

Interesting that a Canon guy would post a joke in the Nikon forum.

Tired of reading how you Canon guys became beta testers?

No, I didn't

I may end up being wrong in what I wrote. However, what I was referring to with regard to "big" events is what Thom has written about Nikon in the past, for example, the launch of the D2H.

As far as Thom's post in this thread goes I think his mention of the World Track and Field Championships is right in line with what Thom has posted in years past. I know Japanese pride is a big thing but "orld"beats "Asian" in the PR arena.

Trickle down means there is no flood downstream. LOL. Just a trickle.

It is called trickle down. Features from top of the line models
will start trickle down to lesser models. Cameras with the same
10mp 1.5x sensor in the D40x used to cost more than twice the
price. Whatever sensor will be introduced with the D3 will
hopefully be available in a camera costing much less in the future.
If not, there is always the EOS 5D.

It's already on Jun 26th

Now it's on June 26th,

2pm in Japan
7am in France
1am in U.S. eastern time

If nothing appears in this week or next week, it's gonna be like PMA hype again, when D3 expectation turned out to be D40X.

Re: Prediction

Thom,

Perhaps the D3 will have a built-in satellite phone - it's about the only thing that hasn't been rumoured so far!

fantasies of anonymous Internet posters

Don't blame Nikon for the "hype," they said nothing about June 26. It's the fantasies of anonymous Internet posters or agitating trolls who are fueling the flames.

And BTW, Nikon said nothing about announcing a D3 at PMA. That again was just wild Internet speculation.

Best advice: Ignore anyone who does not have a proven history predicting releases (BTW - very few here) or site a credible source.

Cheers,
JB

It just hasn't felt/seemed like an announcement was imminent.

I agree. What usually happens prior to a Nikon release is that a core marketing brochure and specs come out of Japan in electronic form and the subsidiaries start working on getting it ready for their own marketing launch. Most of the leaks seem to come from people that have seen that document (or worse, shared parts of it with someone they shouldn't). I don't believe that document is circulating yet. After the marketing brochure, the next leak tends to come from the manual itself, even as it is in preliminary drafts. Again, it's the circulation to subsidiaries that seems to be the primary leak point, though once a subcontractor leaked bits of one. The subsidiary staffers that get invited to the internal launch event (which apparently has happened) are another source, though they usually only leak one thing at a time. For instance, let's say a well-connected dealer gets a few minutes with one of those that were at the launch event and after deflecting all the obvious questions, the informed insider says "well, I'll say this, don't sell your full-frame lenses" and you've got one of those "imprecise" leaks that seem right but don't tell you anything.

Although Nikon will really have to get their skates on if they can
release a camera/lenses within 5 weeks of this July date (if they
haven't unofficially done this prior).

If they've done the kick-off meeting with the pro portions of the subsidiaries, yes. It's not like you wouldn't be expecting a camera at some point soon if you were a subsidiary ; ). Moreover, given the likely limited quantities and pent-up demand, it's not like you have to do a lot to get the first units off the shelf. If you remember, it was months before NikonUSA actually even used a photograph taken by a D2x in the D2x ads that appeared at and just after its launch.

people love fantasies...that's why they....

do lotteries!

The fact that (here in UK) you have a 1 in 14,000,000 chance of winning it, seems irrelevent.

I know people (they are in debt and IMHO cannot afford it) who spend £25 - £35 per week on lottery tickets; they regret wasting their hard earned cash around late evening on Satruday at the fruitless draw and are standing in the que to buy again the next Satruday afternoon.

that's £1,300 - £1,820 per year... and they don't have any savings??????????

I never criticise their actions.. it's up to them.. they 'know' what they're doing.
