Wow! I have got to get me an ND filter! Last time I was at the coast, I had very little success with the DA 14mm. A very dramatic scene! Love it!

Re: Last night at 14mm

I apologize if this seems like a dumb question, but is that a graduated ND filter?

Yes, sorry, missed that bit.

A hard graduated filter.

Very nice photo! I love the cold feeling. Is it a sunset or sunrise?

Hi Andy

Im always a fan of your work and am excited when I see a new thread youve posted with some new images. I find your narrative on your picture of the month rewarding as well. I was however wondering what drew you to this scene and what you were trying to convey this time? For me it is not as obvious as your other photos. Many of your other pictures have a emotional attachment as well. The pebbles for instance - you can hear the ocean retreating over them and you want to go and pick up one of those polished rocks sitting in the morning light. This is a nicely composed picture but didnt convey something for all the senses like your other pics. Nice work in any case and very jealous of course!

Re: Last night at 14mm

Thanks guys,

Koh Kho King, this was a sunset. I'm a lazy west coast landscaper. I really feel sorry for those poor easties. I don't think I have ever taken a sunrise in my life !! LOL. Although maybe I'm missing out here because I've read all about the cold clarity of a sunrise.

David, interesting comments. Maybe I'll need to write this one up as my print of the month some time.

I suppose the main theme and subject of this shot is the small area of warmth amid a island of blue darkness. Without that area of warmth, the photo would just not work. The darkness of the LHS helps accentuate this even more. This is a much darker photograph to my norm but I'm not sure necessarily that it is saying anything deep and meaningful about me or the subject. I like to post my most recent stuff here even if might not be technically or emotionally my strongest.

Beautiful, stands well up to your other work.

Great to see some pictures, with all the mumbo jumbo going about
