Has anyone tried using a 4Gb CF card in the s9600? Did it work? Does anyone know the relative speed of XD to CF, i.e would a x50 CF card be faster or slower than an XD M card?

I would be interested in hearing an answer to this as well. I was reading through the video part of the manual and it refers to using 4gb to record one hour of high quality video, but there is no info on what will or wil not actually work in the camera. I hate to make an assumption on a $50 card, only to find that it is incompatible.

To both -

A major UK dealer now selling the Fuji S9600 , also has this separate section of the online site in which CF cards are offered - including the actual Fuji 4Gig .. so it must be fully compatible ..

As a matter of interest - what price is a 4Gig in US ? - as shown above - it's pretty WICKED here in Uk !!!

Eric, 4gb compact flash cards here run in the neighborhood of $40 to $80 depending on what quality and speed you get. Newegg is a pretty good guage of market price on most products. They are often a little higher than some retailers here, but their customer service as a whole is quite good.

I will have to think heavily about a CF card for my wife's camera. She is using a 2gb, but if she starts shooting raw or videos, she will quickly overrun that.

Good Heavens !! ..even taking account of the extraordinary position we have at present with the exchange rate - that is really depressing isn't it. As I'm not into CF as of now, I have no idea if that firm's price as posted for example , is anything like a 'general' price .. some here STILL offer such things at astronomical prices against others , it just makes you wonder how they ever sell - but if that IS fairly typical, it's no wonder that big size CF's are not I'm sure a big seller here as yet.

As to your final paragraph - yes indeed .. I would most certainly without hesitation get a 4Gig at least in that cam .. the usefulness as against THAT cost would I think make it a case of 'no second thoughts needed'.

Particularly if RAW is used - that just EATS up mem doesn't it - 2Gig sounds a lot, but if used in that way it's soon a highly impractical bit of software.

Still thinking it unbelievable , I've just done a quick Google on 4Gig CF and up came one excellent firm here with the Sandisk Extreme III 4Gig at just about £42 .. now THAT's a bit better encouragement!! .. and maybe more too. So that site I used as a quote for usability IS seemingly a bit of the high-charge type !!

That's not a very bad price on the Sandisk. It is a good performer. I will look at getting a 4 gig for her. I have a 2 gig in it now, and she intends to leave it there all the time and use the XD's for normal use, and fall back to it if she gets in a pinch or loses or forgets her xd cards. Since she has an F20 as well (also new) she will have to share the xD cards between them. I thought she had enough storage, but she came home with 3 gigs of video off the f20 this evening and now I am thinking we will quickly have a fist full of all sorts of memory sitting around our house. I already have memory sticks for our old S85, and PLENTY of SD's for my Nikon. I think maybe we need to rethink our cameras and streamline the memory.
