55-200VR + D50 first shots

Enjoyed using the 55-200VR over the weekend. It's compact, pretty light and VR works a treat. These are snapshots and don't have artistic merit, I was just giving it a little workout. All shot in jpg mode.

1/10th, ISO1600, f5.6, 200mm WITHOUT VR , handheld

1/10, ISO1600, f5.6, 200mm WITH VR , handheld

All remaining using VR

Friend's face, 100% crop

Accidentally shot this at ISO1600!

Did this in manual mode. I think it's a 100% crop if I recall.

I think all of the above were shot wide open. Next time I will try stopping down.

So glad I finally have a tele after 3 months of nothing beyond -55! There are a few more on my flickr page.

That lens looks like a steal of a deal. I'd say enjoy the new toy, but I can see you're already doing just that

Looks like a good job its shame you put the lens through that horror of shooting your friends chin....

I Wish they had these lenses including the 18-nnn range and 70-300 AFS VR when I started off with Nikon 6 years ago then I wouldn't had to waste the money in getting expensive glass at the time.

Things are looking good at Nikon in the lower end, hopefully the higher end will be sorted out now.

Beautiful. What tripod & settings did you use for the moon shot?

I use Scott Kelby's recommended sharpening settings. Don't have them to hand as the book is at home. To my knowledge I didn't do anything other than USM. The final flower one may have had auto-levels though.

Thanks, the moon shot was handheld:

RAW, 1/60, f5.6, VR on, ISO1600, @ 200mm, WB set to tungsten

Nice shots. I just picked up the D40 last week. Kit lens works good so far, but I was looking at the 55-200VR. Where did you buys your from?

Re: 55-200VR + D50 first shots

My brother was over in NYC and picked it up for me for $249. That's the equivalent of £125, whereas in the UK it retails at £250 ($500). As usual, Nikon ripping off its European customers... we're used to it by now, however >
