Filmware 1.05 IS AVAILIBLE, BUT WHERE ???

Here is a link that describes that Amazon has XTi's with this new Film-ware. But the Canon USA site has no mention at all.

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1031&message=22639376

Does anyone know where to download this Film-ware Up-Date ???

Phil. Do you know yet??

According to a German forum it addresses the underexposure problem with some XTi's (mine is ALWAYS set at +2/3 Urrr) It will go to Canon Next week or so. Unless film-ware address it. But I may want a Hardware fix, not a software fix. (I can keep my EC on +2/3 if necessary)

I just did read one of those German forums and the matter has been intensely discussed between believers and non-believers .. Apparently quite some new buyers have indeed a camera with this 1.0.5 FW .. they claim that the cmaera performs much better ... ????
Well it sure is not at the Be-bit site of Canon JP ..

Firmware updates usually appear 2-3 weeks after the new firmware appears in new cameras.

Look at the EXIF data of this picture:

My 400D was repaired by Canon service two weeks ago. Now it do not underexpose at all.

Re: Filmware 1.05 IS AVAILIBLE, BUT WHERE ???

Diego,

Did your XTi (400D) have firmware 1.05 in it before you sent your camera back to Canon for repair of the underexposure problem or did Canon install it with the repair?

No, I have 1.0.4. Before and after.

They said they changed another internal software calibration for the focusing screen. It seems there are different kind of focusing screens, and not all are compatible with the installed software.

I wonder how the firmware upgrade will effect the cameras that were sent back to canon and "Fixed"?

Re: Filmware 1.05 IS AVAILIBLE, BUT WHERE ???

Mine had 1.04 before and after the repair. Not surprising since it was fixed about a month ago. The repair slip referred to "mechanical adjustments to correct uneven exposure," not the kind of thing firmware can do.

I suspect the firmware may address the minor 1/3 EV gray-card discrepancy that seems to be characteristic of the camera, but not the "makes day into night" problems that some users have reported. Those all seem to have been dealt with, at least partially, by mechanical repairs.

When it is released, the first place you will see it is here:

http://web.canon.jp/Imaging/news-f-e.html

Click on the firmware tab and it will show updates by date.

I wonder .. Canon support here told me that the "slight" underexposure was there "by design" ... maybe they changed their tune ?

Don't want to sound negative here but are you sure this isn't a windup as I can't find anything about the 1.0.5 firmware update on the net apart from here & that German site.

??

I went through all the pages of taht german site (reading the original posts) and people posted pictures of their camera clearly showing ver. 1.0.5 in the menu on their LCD screen ..

& BTW .. what would be the use/gain of faking a FW version .. ??? (besides mine is bigger than yours ? :-))

I read "Firmware 1.0.5" in the EXIF data of these pictures:

Image Type: L REBEL XTi Firmware 1.0.5

http://www.flickr.com/photo_exif.gne?id=433449887
http://www.flickr.com/photo_exif.gne?id=437007818

It is strange because other picture taken by the same camera (but in in horizontal) shows:

Image Type: Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XTi
http://www.flickr.com/photo_exif.gne?id=437007812
http://www.flickr.com/photo_exif.gne?id=437815874

It seems that in the first Image Type "Canon EOS DIGITA" is missing, and only the last letter of DIGITAL is readable. Strange...

Please welcome my new Camera.. Cannon Rebel.. I named her "Rebella"..

Re: Firmware 1.05 IS AVAILIBLE, BUT WHERE ???

Just a thought & at the end of the day I do hope it's true as many here will be pleased.

As to why would anyone bother faking it.

Well you know as well as me, that some sad people get great joy in making things up on the net & they get a buzz out of fooling people & it gets everyone talking on forums like this one.

Why do people enjoy sending a virus.

I just hope it is true & will keep looking here & at the Canon site in the UK.
