Great pictures in this thread, Jack! Here's two of mine. Last
December they brightly lit the inside of the St. Jan cathedral
so the stained glass windows could be admired from the
outside:

All the best,

André

Re: Show your Church photos please

The churchyard of this one is stuffed full of long passed relatives! So it has special significance to me.

My mum is doing our family tree and knows great-great-great-great-great-great-grandparent's are buried there!

Handheld, D50, 18-50, two kids, one pushchair, and it was thinking about raining....!

Those are really nice, the one with sun hitting the front has beautiful color. How old is the church?

This is one of 6 stone churches built by the Rev. Bob Childress during the 30-40's along the Blue Ridge Parkway in SW Virginia. Five of the churches remain standing and used today. I live about 1 mile from the one pictured below. Google " Bob Childress" or "The Man Who Moved a Mountain" for more background about his struggle to "civilize" and bring faith to the rugged and wild part of the state during those times.

Here's one from yesterday with the Tokina 12-24 at 12mm (at nearly high noon)...

This church is located just blocks from my house. What first attracted me to this building is how awesome it looks when it's lit at night. The massive curved white wall is very impressive. So, I'll be to get that shot one of these nghts...

Re: Vicena (Italy) and Lodon

I think you did great.

The St. Paul's shot on an overcast day is very telling that the outside is in need of cleaning/repair. Be glad that you were not there at a time with scaffolding on the cathedral. It looks like maybe you were using a wide angle lens, or the wide end of a zoom because I see a bit of distortion but I like the angle you chose. The picture doesn't necessarily emphasize how large the dome really is, but I still like it.

It has been almost 20 years since I have seen the cathedral in person and the thing I remember most was that massive dome.

Thanks so much for sharing this with us.

Re: Abandoned church Cottam Yorkshire

Im having difficulty finding much information out about it.

Cottam is a deserted medieval village. You can still see the earthworks for the houses. I believe the church was used by a local RAF airforce base in WWII. You can still see the runways in adjacent fields.

I also read on one site that the church may date from early 1800s

Please show Koln (Cologne) Cathedral at night

This is the Washington National Cathedral in Washington D.C. last summer. Taken w/D50 & Tokina 12-24 (both were new so that's my excuse).

Construction began in 1907 but was not completed until 1990. Sixth largest cathedral in the world according to Wikipedia. My wife had never been in a cathedral this size and she was very impressed.

Does anyone here have pictures of the Koln (Cologne) Cathedral in Germany at night? I finally figured out after talking to my mother tonight that it was the Koln Cathedral impressively lit up at night that had left such an impression on me many years ago.

This thread was informative and fun for me. Special thanks to the OP & everyone who participated.

Nice Capture and I really like the church with beautiful choice of materials, rugged individuality and strict linear harmony!

Maybe you could clone out the power/telephone lines??
