Re: Sigma 200-500 f/2.8 EX DG for Real?

LOL - Is this for real? If it were April 1st ... .

Any guess at the weight?

I had been considering a Nikon 200-400 but man f/2.8 at 500 WOW and a TC in the mix too. $5-7K perhaps???

LOL

That's perfect. Hopefully it doesn't sound like Godzilla while focusing.

Wonder what a B + W circular polarizer would cost for

Re: Wonder what a B + W circular polarizer would cost for

On large lenses you do not screw in filter to the front of the lens, you drop in a slot toward the rear of the lens and in this case it rotates.... Although I imagine that you would have to buy the CP from Sigma...

focus

this thing HAS to have HSM, how can you expect it to focus with the screw-drive focus from the camera body, otherwise it whould only work on the D2X/H, what do you think? You would strip your poor D50/70(s) 80/200 's autofocus motor if it had to focus this lens?? But then agian, if you view the photo of the lens where you can see the mount it looks like it has a screw-drive focus coupling, i dunno, just guessing

Sweet Mother of God!!!

That is one monster of a lens!!

Make sure not to use it next to - or in line of sight of - government installations, military bases, airports etc. - because you can be sure as heck that thing is going to be easily mistaken for some sort of weapon.

That aside, assuming that the focusing is fast enough and that a tripod / monopod exists to take the (ample) weight, it might become a lens that is commonplace at sporting events.

Which makes me wonder... how deep is the lens hood for this "baby" going to be?

Probably comes with a cash back cheque...

"Buy a Sigma 200-500/2.8 and get a Hummer H3 for half the price"

I wonder whether the R&D section of SAMSONITE suitcases was involved with the design of this lens...:-)

Cheers

G.

It would need to be a 1000mm to be a "Gig".

Nice nick name to keep in mind should they ever produce a 500-1000mm.

Since it comes with a 2x TC, it becomes a 400-1000/5.6.

Re: Dear Santa........(nt)

That range and fixed 2.8 would absolutely sick for the upcoming baseball season, not to mention soccer and football also. If the performance and IQ are good and it does indeed have HSM, I really think Sigma could charge an arm and a leg for this beast!
