Printing with selphy

Hi!

I have a but strange question. So I own a selphy dye-sub photoprinter, everthing is fine have my own ICC profile for it, but something is not really okay for me. In photoshop I set the image size to 100mm*150mm-s. It fine, then I print it out, and there's a little crop. But only on the longer side on both. I'm printing borderless. In the begining i thought that the height is okay, only the width is scaled... but not.

I set in the image size that I want a 100*150mm print at 600DPI, and it showed me a bigger resolution than my picture has. I thought, okay, I modify the canvas size to that, and there wont be any crop (okay just at the width 1mm on each side, but thats okay). I guess I'm not doing it allright, or something is missing. It would be helpfull cause i plan to buy the 100*200 set as well for panoramas, and there's no excuse. It must me 200mm wide no shorter or longer.

Re: Printing with selphy

The Postcard paper size for Canon selphy printers is 100 x 148 mm, so there's always a 2mm crop in the longest side of the photos.

Cheers

Re: Printing with selphy

The Canon Selphy driver increases the borderless overspray quite a lot by about 4 % and it is not ajustable.
The actual printer resolution is 300 ppi (pixels per inch )
You can try to cheat the driver as follows:
1- Resize your actual picture to 143 x 97 mm at 300 ppi

2- Increase the canvas size to 150 x 100 mm, it is important that the driver believes that the picture size is 150x100 mm (even if paper size is really 148x100).
3- Print using Canon Easy Photo-print with borderless option

Re: Printing with selphy

HI!

Thanks for replying... Time solved my problem. I got the information that the selphy's max resolution at 300DPI is 1823*1232. So now it's easy to print without cropping the shorter side.

Profile: I calibrated my one. I got a color table, or calibrating table, or whatever, the guy had a printer calbrating tool. So that's it:)

Another one: does somebody use a panoramic (100mm*200mm) size paper? Is there any crop on long side? Or I'll get a picture where the usuable area is 100mm*200mm? It's important, because I make cubuc panoramas, and I want to print out the equrectangular images.

I have a CP910 and I have the same problem.

I made image 300DPI and 1823*1232px but the same crop. I try with 100% and Fill entire paper but the same crop.

Any ideea how can I print pictures without any crop?

Many thanks!

Because when you print borderless you will always loose part of the image edges due to expansion. There is no way to avoid that. You can reduce the amount but not completely.

I printed a grid out of a 148x100mm @300dpi in photoshop and then marked where the paper edges end.

The .psd is available for download so you can use it - i wrote the whole thing down here https://medium.com/@mihneasim/taming-canon-selphy-edges-41e7502e66db

Good luck!

I know this is an old topic, but the issue still exists with the latest CP1300 printer. I'm happy to report that using your method fixed my issue. For most photo's it's not a problem, but I had a specific photo where too much of the top was being cropped off. Have printed several copies of the photo with different settings, making sure the dimensions matched etc. But the only method that doesn't cut off too much is yours. Thank you for sharing.

Let's do some more zombie-necro-digging:

Thank you for this .psd! I have just gone by chance earlier, this one helps.

It’s crazy a workaround like this is required. Luckily I don’t need it too often. Other than this flaw I like the Selphy printer a lot.
